Job description

Job Summary:
Liberty Robotics is a part of LMI Technologies, providing innovative 3D volumetric vision guidance systems for industrial applications. They are seeking an experienced Software Engineer III to take ownership of software development, focusing on deploying advanced algorithms in real-world manufacturing environments.
Responsibilities:
• Formulate, implement, and validate advanced 2D and 3D computer vision pipelines from mathematical first principles.
• Port, optimize, and deploy production-quality code that interfaces with physical depth sensors, ensuring real-time control loops remain deterministic and lag-free.
• Evaluate system architectures to intelligently determine when to leverage classical image processing workflows versus modern deep learning models to eliminate operational latencies.
• Champion software development best practices by leading meticulous peer code reviews, refactoring legacy components, and managing complex multi-codebase integrations.
• Collaboratively troubleshoot and fine-tune your vision pipelines live on physical hardware and prototype configurations.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
• Solid foundational understanding of linear algebra, geometry, coordinate systems, and rigid-body transformations.
• Hands-on experience with 3D computer vision and perception algorithms, including point cloud processing, 3D registration, pose estimation, object detection, object fitting, reconstruction, and related techniques.
• Experience with 2D image processing and computer vision methods, including image filtering, feature extraction, segmentation, object detection, image registration, and morphological operations.
• Industry experience developing software, algorithms, or perception systems for real-world applications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and validate algorithms.
• Demonstrated ability to write efficient, maintainable, and production-quality software in C++ and/or Python.
• Willingness to travel to customer and OEM installation sites (approximately 1 week out of 10) to perform live field validations on active machinery.
• Extensive career background comprising 5 to 10 years of focused technical expertise in 3D perception and image processing stacks.
Preferred:
• M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Professional background within the Logistics or Automotive industry.
• Understanding of camera and imaging systems, including camera calibration, pinhole camera models, stereo vision, and depth sensing technologies.
• Background in linear and nonlinear optimization, with practical experience applying optimization techniques to computer vision, robotics, or perception problems.
• Knowledge of machine learning and deep learning techniques, including CNNs, Transformers, foundation models, multimodal learning, pre-training, fine-tuning, and model deployment, paired with the ability to evaluate the strengths and limitations of modern AI approaches.
• GPU programming experience (e.g., CUDA, OpenCL, or related frameworks) is a plus.
• Familiarity with software development best practices, including version control, testing, code reviews, and continuous integration.
• Candidates located in, or willing to relocate to, the Ann Arbor, Michigan area are preferred.
