Job description

INNOVIM is seeking a full-stack Software Engineer, Associate to support NASA’s Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Evolution and Development 3 (EED-3) contract based out of Annapolis, Maryland.
Location: Based out of Annapolis, MD
Relocation Assistance: None available at this time
Remote/Telework: YES
Travel: Quarterly to Annapolis, MD for 3 days due to PI Planning

Primary Responsibilities:  

The candidate will work in a fast-paced Agile development environment performing operations, design, and development for the NASA Earthdata Search Client (EDSC) and the Common Metadata Repository (CMR). As a member of the EED-3 team, the software developer will build and support innovative tools allowing scientists and students alike to discover, transform, update, and improve the quality of earth science data in the pursuit of solving a wide range of environmental and socio-economic issues. This includes leading the deployment of product updates, to identify production issues and construct scalable architecture.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle from user story generation, through design, development, automated testing and operational support 
  • Develop new feature ideas to meet the ever-evolving needs of our end-users 
  • Continually help the team grow by sharing new ideas and industry best practices 
  • Suggest improvements to processes and tools to help the team be more efficient 

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:  

  • Experience in cloud environments (AWS preferred) EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, API Gateway.
  • Proficiency in programming languages, front-end technologies and frameworks such as TypeScript, JavaScript (Node.JS/React), Python.
  • Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch for search and data operations.
  • Strong grounding in Agile/Scrum methodologies and use of tools like Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket.
  • Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and software development lifecycle practices.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 0-3 years of software development experience.  

DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:  

  • Experience with geospatial/GIS data formats and tools (GeoJSON, KML, ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Familiarity with machine learning/AI concepts.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills for large-scale distributed systems.
  • Prior experience presenting at technical conferences or leading knowledge-sharing sessions.
