The Manufacturing Skilled Trades Summer Internship is a handson learning opportunity designed for high school and technical college students and recent graduates interested in manufacturing, skilled trades, automation, and industrial technology. Interns will rotate through multiple departments to explore different career paths while gaining practical experience in a safe, supervised manufacturing environment. This will be achieved by maintaining HellermannTyton's Quality and EHS certifications by supporting all corporate policies, procedures, work instructions, and required documentation.
This internship opportunity is offered in partnership with Employ Milwaukee to support youth career development and workforce readiness within Milwaukee County. This parttime program focuses on career exploration, workplace safety, teamwork, and exposure to modern manufacturing technologies.
What You’ll Learn & Do
Interns will work alongside experienced technicians and mentors while rotating through the following areas:
Process Manufacturing
• Observe and assist with daily manufacturing operations
• Learn the basics of how plastic injection molding machines operate
• Assist with material handling, part checks, and general housekeeping
• Learn how quality checks and process controls help ensure consistent production
Tool Room / Mold Maintenance
• Assist with cleaning, organizing, and maintaining molds and tools
• Observe mold disassembly, maintenance, and preventative care
• Learn proper tool handling and shop safety practices
• Follow all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines
Maintenance & Automation
• Observe maintenance and automation technicians at work
• Assist with basic preventative maintenance tasks such as inspections and cleaning
• Learn how robotics, automated equipment, and sensors are used in manufacturing
• Gain exposure to maintenance tools, machine components, and safety procedures
Success in this Role Requires:
• Follow all safety policies and procedures at all times
• Wear required PPE while working in manufacturing areas
• Maintain clean and organized workspaces
• Work as part of a team and communicate respectfully
• Show curiosity, ask questions, and be open to learning new skills
• Attend all scheduled workdays (Monday–Thursday) consistently
What You’ll Bring:
• Must be 16–24 years old at the start of the internship
• Must reside in Milwaukee County
• Currently enrolled in high school or technical college, or recently graduated
• Interest in manufacturing, skilled trades, mechanics, automation, or engineering
• Ability to follow instructions and work safely in a manufacturing environment
