Machine Learning Defense information

What is machine learning defense?

Machine learning defense refers to techniques and strategies designed to protect machine learning models from various security threats, such as adversarial attacks, data poisoning, and model theft. These defenses can include methods like adversarial training, input sanitization, and robust model architectures. The goal is to ensure that machine learning systems remain accurate, reliable, and safe even when faced with malicious attempts to manipulate or exploit them. As machine learning becomes more widely adopted, the importance of effective defenses continues to grow.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in machine learning defense roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Machine Learning Defense often encounter challenges such as staying ahead of adversarial attacks, managing model robustness, and keeping up with rapidly evolving threat landscapes. Addressing these challenges typically requires continuous learning, collaboration with cybersecurity and data science teams, and implementing rigorous testing and monitoring frameworks for deployed models. Proactively participating in industry forums and staying updated on the latest research also help in identifying emerging threats and mitigation strategies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a machine learning defense professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Machine Learning Defense professional, you need a strong background in computer science, cybersecurity, and machine learning, often supported by degrees in these fields or related certifications. Familiarity with frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch, experience with adversarial machine learning techniques, and knowledge of security protocols are typically required. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and strong communication skills are essential for anticipating threats and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. These skills ensure that AI systems remain robust and secure against evolving cyber threats, protecting sensitive data and organizational integrity.

Job Title

AI - Cyber Security Engineer - II

About your role:

As an Advisor II, AI - Software Engineering, you will design, build, and deploy AI-powered cybersecurity solutions that strengthen identity security, automate security operations, and improve cyber defense outcomes. You will work closely with cybersecurity, cloud, data, and application engineering teams to deliver scalable solutions on Google Cloud that support enterprise security priorities and advance AI-enabled security capabilities across Fiserv.

What you'll do:

  • Design, develop, and deploy artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions that support threat detection, anomaly identification, identity risk analysis, security automation, and incident response workflows.
  • Build cloud-native services, application programming interfaces, data pipelines, and reusable frameworks on Google Cloud to support artificial intelligence model training, inference, and real-time security intelligence.
  • Integrate artificial intelligence capabilities with Identity and Access Management (IAM), Privileged Access Management (PAM), secrets management, security information and event management (SIEM), security orchestration, automation, and response (SOAR), and enterprise security telemetry sources.
  • Implement machine learning operations (MLOps) practices including deployment automation, monitoring, observability, performance evaluation, and lifecycle management for artificial intelligence models and agent-based services.
  • Apply secure software development practices, Zero Trust principles, and responsible artificial intelligence controls to address prompt injection, adversarial artificial intelligence threats, data leakage risks, and unauthorized access.
  • Partner with cybersecurity, cloud engineering, data engineering, and application development teams to translate technical and business requirements into scalable engineering solutions.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions, engineering standards, and operational improvements that support enterprise artificial intelligence cybersecurity platforms.
  • Responsibilities listed are not intended to be all-inclusive and may be modified as necessary.

Experience you'll need to have:

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering building enterprise applications and services using Python and modern software development practices.
  • 8+ years of experience designing, building, and deploying solutions on Google Cloud or a comparable cloud platform in an enterprise environment.
  • 6+ years of experience developing machine learning, deep learning, and generative artificial intelligence solutions using large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), embeddings, and vector databases.
  • 6+ years of experience building distributed systems and microservices using Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, machine learning operations (MLOps) frameworks, and application programming interfaces (APIs).
  • 8+ years of experience working with cybersecurity domains including Identity and Access Management (IAM), Privileged Access Management (PAM), Identity Governance Administration (IGA), secrets management, and Zero Trust architecture.
  • 6+ years of experience with security information and event management (SIEM), security orchestration, automation, and response (SOAR), security operations workflows, and security automation technologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Information Security, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, related experience and/or military experience.

Experience that would be great to have:

  • Experience building artificial intelligence agents and automation frameworks for enterprise security use cases.
  • Experience implementing artificial intelligence-powered cybersecurity solutions in financial services, payments, fintech, banking, or another regulated industry.
  • Google Cloud certifications such as Professional Machine Learning Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect, or equivalent cloud certifications.
  • Familiarity with OWASP LLM Top 10, MITRE ATT&CK, MITRE ATLAS, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework.

How you'll work:

  • This role is on-site Monday through Friday. Fiserv considers in-person collaboration to be an essential part of this role as in-person office experiences help you with your overall onboarding experience and leads to stronger productivity.
