Job description

Canon Virginia Inc. is Canon Americas' Regional Technical Headquarters, and we are seeking a motivated and driven individual to join our Canon Family. Our innovative company is rapidly expanding, and we are eager to find the right person for this position!

This position performs machine shop work for the repair and maintenance of dies, molds, and related equipment. In this role, you will set up and operate machine tools and fits and assemble parts to make or repair metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, and layout and machining procedures.

  • Assembles, repairs and fabricates metal parts by operating mechanical equipment.
  • Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units. Consults with engineers, designers and / or programmers and studies specifications, such as blueprint, sketch, damaged part, or description of part to be replaced, to determine dimensions and tolerances of piece to be machined, sequence of operations, and tools, materials, and machines required.
  • Measures, marks and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining. Assists in determining dimensions and tolerances.
  • Provides instruction and guidance to Machinist A's.
  • May program CNC milling machines using various software applications.
  • Sets up and operates metal-removing machines, such as lathe, milling machine or grinder, to machine parts to specifications.
  • Uses precision measuring instruments to adhere to specifications, dimensions and alignment (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges).
  • May operate various types of precision machine tools such as computerized milling machines, cylindrical grinders, surface grinders and EDM machine, WEDM.
  • Uses familiar knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures in regards to machine shop and Plunge EDM operation and equipment.
  • Sets up and operates Plunge EDM Machine to machine parts to specifications.
  • Programs Plunge EDM machines using various types of software (i.e. EDCam or Proprietary Software).
  • Reviews Blue light reports and makes program adjustments as needed.
  • Assists with reviewing, evaluating and approving electrode Blue light reports.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree, apprenticeship program, or two year technical or trade school degree preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience and 4-8 years relevant shop experience.
  • Experience with EDCam or equivalent software.
  • Working knowledge of Siemens NX or other CAD software.
  • Must be able to operate multiple pieces of equipment.
  • Must be able to read and understand work standards, blueprints, technical drawings and 3d models.
  • Experience with CNC desired.
  • Must be 18 years old to apply.
