Job Summary

The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Grocery Department. This role helps ensure excellent customer service, maintains proper inventory levels, drives sales, enforces food safety and company standards, and assists with training and developing department associates. The Assistant Grocery Manager serves as a key leader within the department and may assume responsibility for department operations in the Grocery Manager's absence.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and directing all Grocery Department activities.
  • Ensure product availability through effective inventory management and replenishment practices.
  • Monitor department conditions, including merchandising, cleanliness, organization, and safety.
  • Support execution of promotional programs, seasonal displays, and sales initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, operational standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate pricing, signage, and shelf tags throughout the department.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating merchandise.
Customer Service
  • Deliver and promote exceptional customer service standards.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer questions, concerns, and special requests.
  • Resolve customer issues and escalate concerns when appropriate.
  • Foster a customer-focused culture among department associates.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training new associates.
  • Provide daily direction, coaching, and performance feedback to team members.
  • Help create schedules that support business needs while controlling labor costs.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
  • Lead department operations in the absence of the Grocery Manager.
Inventory & Merchandising
  • Monitor inventory levels to minimize out-of-stocks and shrink.
  • Ensure proper product rotation and date code management.
  • Support inventory counts and audits.
  • Maintain merchandising standards that maximize sales opportunities.
  • Analyze sales trends and recommend actions to improve department performance.
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure adherence to food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections to maintain a safe shopping and working environment.
  • Follow all company, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required.
Financial Performance
  • Assist in achieving sales, margin, shrink, and labor goals.
  • Monitor department expenses and identify opportunities for cost control.
  • Support initiatives designed to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
