Job description

PURPOSE:
To insure optimum customer service by efficient and cost-effective handling of maintenance issue of trucks and trailers away from the terminals. Assist drivers in troubleshooting and authorize repairs, provide safe, on-time delivery of product.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Contact Repair shops to determine when a shop can look at the equipment.
2. Communicate with fleet manager as to what is happening with the equipment repairs and load status.
3. Authorize necessary repairs on the road considering both safety and cost.
4. Create purchase orders and provide necessary information for audit purposes.
5. Administrate fleet data base by completing fleet assistance sheets and enter data into computer.
6. Coordinate with other terminals for repairs that can possibly be made by sending a Marten Transport, Ltd.
mechanic to the sight.
7. Contact repair shops to determine when equipment will be completed.
8. Manage breakdown information by completing necessary paperwork.
9. Communicate breakdown information to proper supervisors
if necessary.
10. Create and maintain repair order file.
11. Direct all accident related information to Liability Claims.
12. Monitor the retrieval of warranty parts to be returned to Marten Transport, Ltd. for warranty repairs.
13. Authorize driver accommodations when truck is in the
shop.
14. Trouble shoot basic mechanical problems working through driver or road service at tractor location.
15. Manage budget within required guidelines of cost and safety.
16. Other duties as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS:
Daily interactions with drivers, vendors, service managers and all levels of Management.

ABILITIES/SKILLS DESIRED:
Knowledge in maintenance for a tractor, trailer and reefer unit. Computer literacy, 10 key accuracy and the knowledge of the usage of an atlas and telephone etiquette. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Standing, stooping, bending, manual dexterity, listening/hearing, speaking/verbal.

EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:
High School diploma, one to two years vocational degree or equivalent desired.
