What is an LPN pulmonary?

LPN Pulmonary nurses are Licensed Practical Nurses who specialize in providing care to patients with respiratory and lung-related conditions, such as asthma, COPD, or pneumonia. They work under the supervision of registered nurses or physicians, assisting with respiratory treatments, monitoring patients’ breathing, administering medications, and educating patients about managing their pulmonary health. LPN Pulmonary nurses are often found in hospitals, pulmonary clinics, and long-term care facilities, playing a key role in supporting patients with chronic or acute lung issues.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an LPN in pulmonary care?

To thrive as an LPN in Pulmonary care, you need a practical nursing diploma or associate degree, a valid LPN license, and a strong understanding of respiratory systems and related medical conditions. Familiarity with spirometry, oxygen equipment, electronic health records (EHRs), and pulmonary function testing is typically required. Compassion, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for supporting patients with chronic respiratory issues. These competencies are essential to ensure safe, accurate care and to improve patient outcomes in specialized respiratory settings.

How does an LPN specializing in pulmonary care collaborate with respiratory therapists and physicians?

LPNs in pulmonary settings work closely with respiratory therapists and physicians to deliver comprehensive care to patients with respiratory conditions. They often monitor vital signs, administer prescribed respiratory treatments, and report any changes in patient status to the healthcare team.
