As of Jun 21, 2026, the average hourly pay for lpn courses in the United States is $29.88, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $24.76 and $33.65 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges students face during LPN courses and how can they overcome them?

Students in LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) courses often find balancing hands-on clinical practice with classroom learning to be challenging. Time management is crucial, as coursework, labs, and clinical rotations can be demanding. Many students also experience test anxiety due to the rigorous academic and licensing exam requirements. Building strong study habits, seeking support from instructors or peers, and utilizing campus resources like tutoring or counseling can help students navigate these challenges successfully.

What courses do LPNs take?

LPNs typically complete a state-approved practical nursing program that includes coursework in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, nutrition, and nursing skills, along with supervised clinical practice. These programs usually last about one year and prepare students for the NCLEX-PN licensing exam required to become licensed practical nurses.

What is the difference between Lpn Courses vs Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Courses?

AspectLpn CoursesCertified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Courses
CredentialsLicensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license after completionCertified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification after training
Work EnvironmentHospitals, clinics, long-term care facilitiesSkilled nursing facilities, hospitals, home health
Job ResponsibilitiesAdminister medications, perform basic procedures, patient care under RN supervisionAssist with daily living activities, basic patient care, reporting to nurses

While both Lpn Courses and CNA Courses prepare students for healthcare roles, Lpn Courses lead to becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse with broader responsibilities and higher scope of practice. CNA Courses focus on basic patient care and assistance. Choosing between them depends on your career goals and desired level of patient care responsibility.

What are LPN courses?

LPN courses are specialized educational programs designed to train individuals to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). These courses typically cover topics such as basic nursing skills, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and patient care. Most LPN programs combine classroom instruction with hands-on clinical experience in healthcare settings. Completion of these courses prepares students to sit for the NCLEX-PN exam, which is required for licensure. LPN courses usually take about 12 to 18 months to complete, depending on the program.

How much can an LPN make?

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) typically earn between $40,000 and $55,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and work setting. Salaries can increase with additional certifications or specialized skills, and LPNs often work in hospitals, clinics, or long-term care facilities with flexible schedules.

What kind of LPN makes the most money?

LPNs working in specialized settings such as long-term care, home health, or in roles with additional certifications like IV therapy or wound care tend to earn higher salaries. Those with advanced skills, experience, or who work in high-demand areas or facilities often have higher pay compared to general LPN positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you need a solid understanding of basic nursing care, patient monitoring, and medical terminology, typically gained through completion of an accredited LPN program and passing the NCLEX-PN exam. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), blood pressure monitors, and medication administration systems is essential. Compassion, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help LPNs provide quality patient care and collaborate effectively with healthcare teams. These competencies are crucial for ensuring patient well-being, safety, and efficient healthcare delivery.

What can you do with an LPN certification?

An LPN certification allows individuals to work as licensed practical nurses, providing basic patient care under the supervision of registered nurses or physicians. LPNs perform tasks such as monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and assisting with daily activities in settings like hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities. The role requires passing the NCLEX-PN exam and maintaining licensure.
