What's the difference between an LPC and LPCC?

An LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) is a license typically issued at the state level for counselors providing mental health services, while an LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor) is a specific type of LPC with additional training and supervised clinical experience, often allowing for a broader scope of practice including diagnosis and treatment planning. Both require a master's degree, supervised clinical hours, and passing a licensing exam, but LPCCs usually have more advanced clinical credentials and responsibilities.

Can an LPCC call themselves a therapist?

An LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor) can call themselves a therapist once they have obtained licensure and meet state-specific requirements. They are qualified to provide mental health counseling and therapy services within their scope of practice. It is important to adhere to state regulations regarding the use of titles and professional designations.

What field of counseling makes the most money?

In counseling, clinical psychologists and psychiatrists tend to earn the highest salaries, often due to advanced degrees and licensure requirements. While LPCC trainees are in training, licensed clinical mental health counselors with additional certifications or specialization in areas like addiction or forensic counseling can also achieve higher earnings. Salary levels depend on experience, location, and work setting.

What is a trainee counselor?
