Description
StarCare Specialty Health System is in search of a highly motivated individual to work in the Lubbock County Detention Center as a Forensic Screening Specialist.
The Forensic Screening Specialist is one of the first mental health specialists that interacts with an inmate during their booking procedures at the Lubbock County Detention Center (LCDC). This position conducts the initial face-to-face mental health screenings and reports to the Magistrate following their case review. This position must work effectively with LCDC staff, inmates, and outside support agencies as necessary. This position is essential to the initial processing and screening portion of entry into the Lubbock County Detention Center and is critical in the assistance of identifying individuals that may be experiencing suicidal ideations. Additionally, this position also identifies individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), Veteran status, and/or Substance Abuse/Dependence issues and reports to the appropriate entities. Forensic Screening Specialists report directly to the Suicide Prevention Coordinator and consults regularly with the Psychiatric Care Team. The applicant for this position must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail as this position is heavy in gathering digital data and reporting to multiple agencies.
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct initial screenings and referrals for all individuals entering the Lubbock County Detention Center, identifying those with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Mental Illness, and/or Substance Abuse/Dependence issues.
  • Provide face-to-face screenings to determine eligibility for the Lubbock Private Defender Office (LPDO), ensuring all necessary documentation is completed within established timeframes.
  • Interact directly with inmates during their booking procedures, conducting initial mental health screenings and reporting findings to the Magistrate following case reviews
  • Collaborate effectively with LCDC staff, inmates, and outside support agencies to ensure comprehensive care and support.
  • Must possess a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other computer functions, demonstrating the ability to efficiently manage data, and maintain complex spreadsheets

Schedule:
8:00 PM - 6:00 AM THURSDAY & FRIDAY*
8:00 PM - 6:00 AM TWO OTHER DAYS WITHIN THE SAME WORK WEEK (EMPLOYEE DISCRETION) *

Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major course work in a Human Services Field, (Sociology, Psychology, Family Studies, etc.), with two (2) years of full-time experience in a related field, required.
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or LPC-Intern is preferred.
  • Knowledge and skill in operating office equipment (phone, fax, copier, etc.) and personal computer with Microsoft Office products is required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Additional Requirements:
  • Candidate must have a valid Texas driver's license, liability auto insurance, and be insurable under the Agency insurance.
  • Must pass pre-hire drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must be able to pass and maintain Lubbock County Detention Center security clearance.
