Territory Manager - Substance Use Disorder (Philadelphia)

Accountable

Philadelphia, PA • On-site

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO

Re-posted 10 days ago

Job description

Why Accountable
Accountable is a new kind of support for substance use recovery and sobriety. Every member is matched with a certified peer recovery coach who has been through recovery themselves, supported by daily breathalyzer monitoring, remote drug testing, and recovery groups, all delivered virtually. People come to us in different ways. For some it's the step down after treatment, when structure falls away and relapse risk peaks. For others it's ancillary support that runs alongside a clinical program, therapy, or 12-step work. And for a growing number it's the first step: they want a different relationship with alcohol and need structure and someone in their corner to build it. The company was founded by people in recovery. More than 10,000 members have come through the program, and coverage is expanding across every payer segment.
The opportunity
You are Accountable's face in your territory. The clinicians, discharge planners, and community partners in your market decide every day where to send someone who needs support after treatment, alongside treatment, or instead of waiting until things get worse. Your job is to make sure they know us, trust us, and refer to us. You'll build and work your own account list, run in-services, and own a monthly referral number. We're building this team in real time across our growth states, and your manager will be in the field with you, not behind a dashboard.
How we operate
Something to be direct about up front: this industry has a long history of paying for patients, and some markets have seen more of it than others. We don't do it. No referral fees, no per-head arrangements, no kickbacks dressed up as marketing agreements. We earn referrals on outcomes and trust, and we walk away from anything that smells like brokering. If that's the version of this job you're used to, this isn't the place. If you've been waiting to do this work somewhere that does it right, keep reading.
What you'll do
  • Build and work a territory plan covering your market's referral sources. Be in the field 4-5 days a week, 15-20 meetings a week once ramped.
  • Sell consultatively. Learn what a referrer's client actually needs before you pitch, and be willing to say when we're not the right fit - that honesty is what earns the next referral.
  • Call on the treatment side: residential programs, detoxes, PHP/IOPs, sober livings, and the discharge planners, case managers, and alumni coordinators inside them.
  • Call on the clinical side: therapists, addiction medicine and psychiatry practices, primary care, and hospital social workers.
  • Call on the community side: drug courts, interventionists, DUI and family law attorneys, EAPs, and recovery community organizations.
  • Run in-services and lunch-and-learns. Show up at the coalition meetings, recovery events, and conferences that matter in your market.
  • Activate new accounts and keep existing ones warm. The goal is simple: every active account refers at least quarterly.
  • Close the loop with every referrer, every time. Log your activity in the CRM the same day.
  • Work within Accountable's compliance standards in every referral relationship.

What success looks like
  • Month 3: territory mapped, first accounts activated, referrals coming in.
  • Month 6: steady referral flow and a working rhythm of field days, in-services, and follow-up.
  • Month 12: an account list that refers month in, month out, and a territory you could hand someone a playbook for.

Who you are
  • You live in the territory, hold a valid driver's license, have reliable transportation, and want a job that happens outside.
  • 2+ years of outside sales, community outreach, admissions, or business development. Behavioral health, treatment admissions, home health, hospice, or pharma field experience helps.
  • You can speak the treatment world's language: what detox, residential, PHP, IOP, outpatient, MAT, and sober living each are, and where recovery support fits around them. If you're coming from adjacent healthcare, you'll be expected to know this cold within your first month.
  • You understand how people actually pay for and access care - private pay, commercial insurance, Medicare - well enough to answer a referrer's "what will this cost my client" question honestly and correctly.
  • You've done cold outreach and can prove it: you build lists, knock on doors, and turn a cold contact into a relationship.
  • You've carried a number and hit it.
  • You can talk credibly with a clinical director at 10am and a worried parent at 2pm.
  • Disciplined about CRM. Same-day logging isn't a stretch goal.

Nice to have
  • Existing relationships with treatment providers or clinicians in this market.
  • Personal or family recovery experience. Valued here, never required.

Benefits & logistics
  • $60,000-$75,000 + Performance Bonus
  • Competitive medical, dental, and vision; PTO
  • Mileage reimbursement for field work.

We celebrate recovery in all its forms and do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, veteran status, disability, or recovery status. People in recovery are strongly encouraged to apply.
