What does a nanny do?

A nanny is a childcare professional who provides care for children in a family's home, often on a full- or part-time basis. Responsibilities typically include supervising the children, preparing meals, organizing activities, helping with homework, and sometimes light housekeeping related to the children. Nannies work closely with parents to support the children's development and daily routines. Some nannies may also assist with transportation to and from school or activities. The specific duties can vary depending on the family's needs and the children's ages.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a nanny, and why are they important?

To thrive as a nanny, you need experience in childcare, a basic understanding of child development, and often CPR/First Aid certification. Familiarity with household safety protocols and scheduling tools, such as digital calendars or communication apps, is typically required. Patience, reliability, and strong communication skills help nannies build trust with both children and parents. These skills ensure the child's well-being, foster a supportive environment, and facilitate clear communication with families.

What are some common challenges nannies face when working with families, and how can they be addressed?

Nannies often encounter challenges such as adjusting to different parenting styles, setting boundaries while maintaining a close relationship with children, and managing varying expectations from parents. Open communication is key—regular check-ins with parents can help clarify expectations and resolve issues early. Building a routine and being flexible also help nannies integrate smoothly into a family's daily life, ensuring a positive experience for both the nanny and the family.
