Position Overview
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K-8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a data-driven and culturally responsive 5th Grade Math Teacher to deliver rigorous, standards-aligned mathematics instruction that builds strong conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and problem-solving skills while preparing students for success in middle school and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Achievement
  • Deliver engaging, standards-aligned 5th grade mathematics instruction using the AMS curriculum and instructional frameworks.
  • Develop students' conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, computational fluency, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Foster mathematical discourse by encouraging students to explain their thinking, justify solutions, and collaborate with peers.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including multilingual learners and students requiring additional support.
  • Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress, inform instruction, and drive academic growth.
  • Incorporate hands-on activities, technology, and real-world applications to make mathematics meaningful and engaging.

Collaboration & Professional Development
  • Participate in weekly professional development sessions and professional learning communities.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and instructional leaders to refine teaching practices.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and academic excellence.

Family & Community Engagement
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding academic progress and student goals.
  • Lead parent-teacher conferences and maintain strong, positive relationships with families.

Scholar Culture & Support
  • Implement PBIS and proactive classroom management strategies to support student success.
  • Establish a structured, engaging, and academically rigorous classroom culture that promotes perseverance and confidence in mathematics.
  • Support the social-emotional development of elementary students.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management and elementary mathematics instructional skills.
  • Pass required background checks and obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving Title I and multilingual communities.
  • Show enthusiasm for data-driven instruction, continuous improvement, and student growth.
  • Demonstrate collaboration, flexibility, and a student-centered mindset.

Compensation & Benefits
AMS offers a competitive compensation and benefits package designed to support professional growth and long-term career success.
  • Salary Range: $44,770 - $50,550 (DOE)
