Job Purpose
Reporting to the Manager of SCADA, the SCADA Engineer develops and supports Longroad's enterprise SCADA platform (LongView) across a fleet of 50+ solar, energy storage, and wind projects. The role is weighted approximately 60% to LongView application development and 40% to fleet SCADA support and integration.
LongView development work centers on Ignition-based views, dashboards, KPIs, and workflows for the Remote Operations Center (ROC) and Site Operations - including custom alarm strategies, priority pipelines, downtime management, time-series historization into cloud storage, and integration of SCADA with enterprise applications to automate ROC and site workflows.
Fleet support work covers SCADA integration on greenfield projects, ongoing maintenance of project-level SCADA and plant control systems, IED telemetry troubleshooting (remote and on-site), firmware and patch rollouts, and coordination with OEM SCADA and substation automation vendors. The role supports EPC vendors, O&M technicians, regulatory agencies, utility offtakers, and internal teams.
Responsibilities
Support Greenfield Commissioning and SCADA Integration
  • Review drawing sets and participate in project commissioning meetings
  • Perform Owner's SCADA integration
  • Conduct field verification, testing, and validation activities
  • Perform LongView SCADA integrations

Develop and Maintain LongView Applications
  • Develop and maintain Ignition-based views, dashboards, and KPIs
  • Design custom alarm strategies, priority pipelines, and downtime management workflows
  • Develop and maintain time-series data historization, including movement into cloud storage
  • Integrate SCADA systems with enterprise applications to automate ROC and site workflows

Support Metadata, UDT, and Templatization Process Across LongView
  • Support & maintain project level & Owner's SCADA
  • Support IED telemetry troubleshooting, remotely and in the field
  • Test, deploy, and support SCADA & IED upgrades and patches
  • Coordinate with OEM SCADA providers on system changes, upgrades, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Support & maintain drawings, configurations, and asset inventory
  • Coordinate with IT & ROC for firewall changes and telemetry outages
  • Support metadata, UDT, and templatization processes
  • Provide SCADA support to EPC vendors, O&M technicians, regulatory agencies, utility offtakers, and internal stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience in SCADA & Automation with a focus on SCADA integration
  • 4+ years of experience with Inductive Automation Ignition SCADA, including Perspective and/or Vision module development, scripting, tag systems, and UDT architecture
  • Strong experience with Python for Ignition scripting and automation
  • Experience working with Ignition Historians, SQL, and database technologies
  • Experience working with TCP/IP layer 1 and layer 2 concepts, and fundamental knowledge of layer 3 and layer 4 concepts
  • Working knowledge of industrial protocols, particularly Modbus (RTU & TCP), OPC UA, and MQTT
  • Experience working on utility-scale solar, energy storage, or wind projects
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Travel up to 30%

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram (FBD), or Structured Text PLC programming
  • Hands-on experience with SEL RTAC, SEL relays, SEL Axion PLCs, or other IED technologies
  • Experience with substation automation and electrical protection systems
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850, DNP3, and ICCP in a utility-substation context
  • Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD for SCADA applications
