Job Summary: We are seeking a creative and organized Load Planner. This role will focus on developing, executing, and optimizing load planning strategies to retain high-quality drivers. The ideal candidate has a strong Load Planning background, excellent leadership, communication, and relationship building skills, and a passion for accountability and acceptability in a dynamic environment.


The Load Planner is responsible for the strategic planning, coordination, and optimization of long-haul freight shipments. This role involves assigning loads to drivers, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations, maximizing asset utilization, and maintaining high service levels for customers.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and assign OTR freight loads to drivers based on availability, location, hours of service, and equipment type.
  • Monitor and manage driver schedules to ensure timely pick-up and delivery.
  • Maximize equipment utilization and load efficiency while minimizing empty miles.
  • Communicate with drivers, dispatchers, and customer service teams to resolve issues and provide load updates.
  • Use transportation management systems (TMS) to plan, track, and document load activities.
  • Analyze freight routes and develop strategies for route optimization and cost reduction.
  • Ensure all loads are in compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and customer requirements.
  • Maintain detailed records and reports on load planning activities, delays, and exceptions.
  • Collaborate with customer service and sales to understand volume forecasts and capacity needs.
  • Respond quickly to last-minute changes or issues in load schedules or driver availability.


Skills & Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associateโ€™s or Bachelorโ€™s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in transportation, dispatch, or logistics, preferably in an OTR environment.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and hours of service.
  • Proficiency with load planning software and transportation management systems (TMS).
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage changing priorities.
