Logistics Sales Associate information

What is a logistics sales associate?

Logistics Sales Associates are professionals who specialize in selling transportation, warehousing, and supply chain solutions to businesses. They identify potential clients, build relationships, and negotiate contracts for logistics services such as freight shipping, inventory management, and distribution. Their role often involves understanding client needs, providing customized solutions, and ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the logistics process. They also stay up-to-date with industry trends, pricing, and regulations to offer the best possible services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a logistics sales associate?

To thrive as a Logistics Sales Associate, you need strong sales acumen, knowledge of logistics operations, and typically a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software, transportation management systems (TMS), and Microsoft Office is often required. Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills help you excel in client interactions and team settings. These skills are crucial for generating new business, managing accounts effectively, and ensuring seamless coordination between clients and logistics providers.

What are the typical challenges a logistics sales associate faces when building relationships with new clients?

As a Logistics Sales Associate, one of the most common challenges is establishing trust with potential clients in a competitive marketplace. Clients often have established relationships with other providers, so differentiating your company's services and demonstrating reliability is key. You’ll need to be proactive in learning each client’s unique logistics needs and responsive to concerns, all while managing multiple accounts and staying updated on industry trends. Collaborating closely with operations and customer service teams is also essential to ensure promises made during the sales process can be delivered, which can be challenging in a fast-paced environment.

What is the difference between Logistics Sales Associate vs Logistics Coordinator?

AspectLogistics Sales AssociateLogistics Coordinator
Primary RoleFocuses on sales, client acquisition, and promoting logistics servicesManages daily logistics operations, shipments, and coordination
Required SkillsSales, communication, customer serviceOrganization, problem-solving, attention to detail
Work EnvironmentOffice-based, client meetings, sales callsOffice and warehouse, operational oversight
Common CertificationsNone specific, sales certifications helpfulLogistics or supply chain certifications beneficial

While both roles are integral to logistics companies, a Logistics Sales Associate primarily focuses on sales and client relationships, whereas a Logistics Coordinator manages the operational aspects of shipments and logistics processes. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job fit within the logistics industry.

Can I work in logistics sales with no experience?

Logistics sales associate roles often do not require prior experience, as employers may provide training on industry-specific knowledge, sales techniques, and tools like CRM software. Strong communication skills, a willingness to learn, and basic understanding of supply chain concepts can help candidates succeed in entry-level positions.

Job description

Bellavance Logistics is hiring a Carrier Sales Rep for our Brokerage team in Milton, VT. If you're a strong communicator who enjoys negotiating, thinks well on your feet, and wants a job where your effort shows up directly in your paycheck, we want to hear from you.

Bellavance Logistics is a small, multi-generational, family-owned company. We run on what we call "The Bellavance Way": we do business with integrity, do what it takes to get the job done, always look to improve how we work, and are proud of where we work. Our Brokerage team works daily with customers, outside carriers, dispatch, and drivers to keep freight moving on time.

What You'll Do

  • Answer phone calls and emails daily, and build relationships that last past one shipment.
  • Sell freight and grow a dedicated carrier base that trusts you.
  • Negotiate rates and solve problems in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Dispatch drivers on shipments and track them accurately from pickup to delivery.
  • Keep freight bills, carrier rates, and carrier files accurate and up to date.
  • Offer real solutions when something goes wrong at a facility — wrong paperwork, missing pickup numbers, detention disputes.
  • Collect documents for billing once a shipment delivers.
  • Vet carriers using our provided tools and software.

What We're Looking For

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's is a plus, not a requirement).
  • 1–2 years of general office experience.
  • A positive, upbeat personality — self-confidence and work ethic matter more here than a polished resume.
  • Comfort working in a team environment and juggling multiple priorities at once.
  • A thick skin for negotiation and a cool head when three things go wrong at once.
  • Willingness to learn new tools — we use Truckmate.

What You'll Get

  • Base salary plus commission
  • Health insurance and 401(k).
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • A real growth path
  • A team small enough to know your name, and a company that means it when it says "we want to be here."

Ready to be the person carriers call first? Apply today — we're hiring now.

Requirements:

Monday – Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Adherence to Company Values: Uphold the values and principles of “The Bellavance Way.”

We want to be here:  We take pride in and take ownership of our roles.  We realize that each of our efforts directly affect the success of our company and are inspired by that.  We are positive.  We take care of our company by representing it well and promoting it.  We are proud to work for this small, multi-generational, family-owned company.
