Summary
The Assistant Area Manager is a member of the Field Operations team, supporting the Area Manager in overseeing day-to-day operations across an assigned portion of 24/7 customer sites within a geographic region. This role owns
site-level performance management, safety compliance, and resource coordination while supervising and developing site personnel through the full employee lifecycle. The role partners closely with customers and vendors to ensure
consistent service delivery. The ideal candidate is a hands-on operator who is safety-minded, adaptable, and skilled at developing frontline teams in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment.
Job Description
Operational Excellence
  • Oversee day-to-day operations across an assigned portion of 24/7 customer sites, with a focus on safety and service levels.
  • Monitor performance metrics, develop process improvements, and resolve issues that impact service levels.
  • Ensure all locations have the necessary equipment to operate (maintenance & rentals). People Development
  • Provide guidance, supervision, and performance management to site personnel to meet business needs.
  • Support the full employee lifecycle recruiting, hiring, team building, and training for new managers and drivers, and lead retraining for existing staff.
  • Coach, mentor and develop employees while growing the team.
Customer & Vendor Relations
  • Coordinate logistics activities with internal and external customers to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Ensure employees consistently deliver the highest level of customer service across assigned sites.
Safety & Compliance
  • Hold site managers accountable for safety standards and resolve maintenance-related safety issues.
  • Conduct safety observations and coaching sessions to reinforce adherence to safety standards.
  • Escalate safety incidents and unresolved compliance issues to the Area Manager for resolution.
Team Leadership
  • Be a leader by example and live our overall purpose and core values. Foster communication, collaboration, diversity, inclusion, innovation and a productive team environment.
  • Promote a business partner and ownership mindset to the team to prioritize customer service excellence, adoption and resilience to change and continuous improvement.
  • Other tasks that may be assigned.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Related field with 3+ years' previous business experience, ideally in supply chain, transportation, or related field with 1-2 years supervisory experience with increasing levels of responsibility. BA/BS in logistics preferred.
  • Working knowledge of domestic carrier services, rules, and regulations.
  • Understanding and prevention of critical safety issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, E-Plan and Geotab).
  • Experience using or willingness to learn approved AI/LLM and automation tools.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to the ever-changing market and Lazer Logistics objectives and goals.
  • Strong business acumen and entrepreneurial/commercial mindset.
  • Solutions oriented with intuitive critical thinking and leadership skills.
  • Strong ethical and integrity code.
