Job description

Director, Global Logistics

Location: Cambridge, MA

Akebia Therapeutics seeks a dynamic and experienced Director of Global Logistics to lead the development and execution of logistics strategies that support our global commercial and clinical supply chains. This strategic and handsโ€‘on leader will optimize logistics operations, manage vendor relationships, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement across a complex international network.

Global Supply Chain Strategy & Operations
  • Develop and implement logistics strategies aligned with Akebiaโ€™s business objectives for all commercial and clinical products.
  • Oversee international transportation, warehousing, and distribution to ensure efficient, timely delivery and costโ€‘effective operations.
Vendor & Risk Management
  • Manage relationships with thirdโ€‘party logistics providers, carriers, storage facilities, and other supply chain partners, negotiating contracts and service level agreements.
  • Develop risk scorecards, identify global supply chain risks, and create contingency plans to ensure business continuity.
Crossโ€‘Functional Collaboration & Compliance
  • Work closely with CMC Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Procurement, and Commercial Operations to integrate logistics activities and ensure compliance with international regulations, including Good Distribution Practices and customs.
Performance Monitoring, Inventory & Improvement
  • Establish and use key performance indicators (KPIs) and analytics to monitor logistics performance, manage global inventory levels, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Technology, Sustainability & Team Leadership
  • Implement logistics technology solutions to improve visibility and data management.
  • Develop strategies to reduce the environmental impact of logistics operations.
  • Lead and develop a highโ€‘performing logistics team, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in global logistics and supply chain management, with 5+ years in a leadership role, preferably in the biopharmaceutical industry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of international logistics operations, including transportation, warehousing, and distribution.
  • Proven experience managing logistics for both clinical and commercial supply chains.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data for decisionโ€‘making and optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate crossโ€‘functional teams in a fastโ€‘paced environment.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Compensation

Targeted base salary: $179,399 โ€“ $211,610. Base compensation may vary based on qualifications and experience. Total rewards include bonus programs, incentive plans, equity, health care, vision, dental, retirement, paid time off, and other benefits.
