Job description

FS GRAIN is a leading grain company with 80 full time employees operating in Northern Illinois. FS GRAIN operates 19 facilities with a combined storage capacity of 40 million bushels, and access to multiple grain markets, including ownership of two Class I shuttle loaders. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Purpose and Summary Statement

Under the direction of the Logistics Manager, the CDL Driver is responsible for the day-to-day execution of product transportation for FS Grain. This role is responsible for safely operating trucks, completing scheduled deliveries and pickups, and ensuring the accurate and timely movement of grain to meet customer commitments and business objectives.

This position reflects FS Grain’s commitment to professionalism through organized execution, clear communication, and a strong presence when interacting with customers and team members. It demonstrates customer focus by providing reliable, timely service and responding to challenges with a solution-oriented mindset. The CDL Driver promotes safety and regulatory compliance in all driving and operational activities, reinforcing company standards and accountability. Through accurate documentation, responsible equipment operation, and consistent follow-through, the role upholds integrity. By maintaining a willingness to learn, adapt, and support team operations, the CDL Driver contributes to a culture of growth across the organization.

Essential Job Functions

  • Safety & Integrity: Operates all assigned vehicles (single, tandem, or multi-axle configurations) and equipment in accordance with company safety standards, DOT regulations, and proper vehicle operation techniques. Maintains accountability for safe work practices at all times.
  • Safety & Professionalism: Performs and documents daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including checking fuel, oil, tires, lights, and brakes. Follows preventative maintenance programs and maintains a clean, well-organized vehicle that reflects a professional company image.
  • Customer Focus & Professionalism: Ensures all deliveries and pickups are completed according to schedule while providing reliable and courteous service. Represents the company positively in all interactions with customers, vendors, and team members.
  • Integrity & Attention to Detail: Accurately completes and returns all required documentation, including bills of lading, delivery tickets, invoices, and other records, ensuring timely processing and payment.
  • Integrity & Accountability: Maintains accurate daily records, including logbooks, hours of service, and cargo documentation, in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Professionalism & Safety: Maintains company equipment according to established standards, adheres to the company Uniform Policy, and upholds a clean, professional appearance.
  • Growth & Teamwork: Supports team operations and contributes to continuous improvement by following processes, accepting feedback, and performing additional duties as assigned.

Education and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; minimum of 2 years of related experience preferred to demonstrate the ability to safely operate tractor-trailer equipment.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid CDL with required endorsements, valid medical card, and satisfactory driving record in accordance with company and DOT standards.
  • Demonstrates core competencies aligned with company values, including communication, reliability, customer focus, decision-making, and a commitment to safety and continuous growth.
  • Ability to work extended hours as business conditions require.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required certifications, licenses, and permits.
  • Must consent to FS Grain using in-cab technology, including Samsara cameras, to promote safe driving, ensure compliance with company policies, and support continuous improvement through coaching and feedback.

Working Conditions

  • Frequently exposed to extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, etc.)
  • Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, and electrical hazards with appropriate safety measures
  • May be required to work at varying heights
  • Ability to lift 51–70 lbs.

Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law.  In addition to base pay, certain roles may be eligible for bonuses, incentives, and commissions.
