Logistics freight audit is the process of reviewing, verifying, and validating freight bills and shipping invoices to ensure accuracy and prevent overcharges. This process involves checking shipment details, rates, accessorial charges, and compliance with contract terms between shippers and carriers. The goal is to identify discrepancies, recover potential overpayments, and improve overall supply chain cost efficiency. Freight audit can be performed in-house or outsourced to specialized third-party providers.

Familiarity with freight audit and payment platforms, Excel, and transportation management systems (TMS) is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication help professionals identify discrepancies and coordinate with carriers and internal teams. These skills are essential to ensure accurate freight billing, cost savings, and efficient logistics operations.
