Job description

The Manager - Logistics is responsible for managing the daily logistics activities of CTC marine transportation assets and ensuring contractual obligations to CTC customers are met. The Manager - Logistics provides leadership and direction to a team of Logistics Coordinators and Leads supporting CTC’s 24/7 marine operations. This position takes ownership of departmental responsibilities and short-term and long-term operational results and participates in an on-call rotation to provide leadership and operational support outside of regular business hours. The Manager - Logistics develops and implements strategies to optimize the utilization of marine transportation assets, improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and support safe and compliant operations. 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement logistics strategies to optimize the utilization, availability, and deployment of marine transportation assets while meeting customer and contractual requirements.
  • Manage the day-to-day logistics activities associated with marine transportation operations, ensuring resources are effectively coordinated to support business and operational objectives.
  • Coordinate with Sales and Operations to align transportation resources with customer commitments, commercial requirements, and operational capacity.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Operations to coordinate vessel inspections, planned and unplanned maintenance, repairs, and other activities that may affect asset availability.
  • Collaborate with Compliance and other stakeholders to identify, evaluate, and mitigate operational, regulatory, safety, and contractual risks.
  • Monitor marine transportation schedules, asset availability, utilization, and operational performance against established goals and contractual obligations, proactively addressing issues and taking corrective action when needed.
  • Analyze operational, financial, and performance data to identify trends, inefficiencies, cost-reduction opportunities, and opportunities to improve asset utilization.
  • Develop and implement process improvements and operating practices that increase operational efficiency, reduce costs, improve service delivery, and support safe and compliant operations.
  • Identify and resolve difficult to moderately complex logistics and operational problems, balancing customer requirements, asset availability, cost, safety, compliance, and business priorities.
  • Communicate operational priorities, risks, constraints, and recommendations to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Support the development of short- and medium-term logistics plans based on anticipated customer demand, asset availability, maintenance requirements, and operational constraints.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and reporting related to logistics activities, asset utilization, operational performance, and contractual requirements.
  • Lead, coach, and develop logistics professionals and paraprofessional employees, establishing clear expectations and supporting employee performance and development.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, Maritime Transportation, Operations Management, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience in logistics, transportation, marine transportation, supply chain, fleet/asset management, or a related operational environment.
  • Experience leading or managing employees and/or cross-functional operational activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze operational data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to address difficult to moderately complex operational issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to influence stakeholders outside of the immediate department.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and make decisions in a time-sensitive operational environment. 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience within the maritime transportation, marine services, towing, inland waterways, offshore, or vessel operations industry.
  • Experience with marine transportation asset utilization, vessel scheduling, fleet logistics, or charter/contractual requirements.
  • Knowledge of applicable maritime safety, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with logistics, fleet management, enterprise resource planning (ERP), or transportation management systems.
  • Experience using data and reporting tools to monitor operational performance and identify improvement opportunities.


Physical Capabilities:

  • Carry, push, pull or move 10 pounds regularly, or up to 20 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to sit up to 8 hours per day
