The Center for People is a dynamic non-profit organization that provides innovative services and programs to the low-income community in Lincoln, Nebraska, addressing basic needs and providing opportunities to achieve economic independence for our clients.


We are currently looking for a Operations Manager. This position is a full-time, 40 hour per week, onsite position.


I. GENERAL FUNCTIONS

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the safety, efficiency, and functionality of agency facilities, including buildings, equipment, vehicles, and grounds. This position manages the Warehouse Logistics Facilitator and other assigned personnel, ensuring all tasks are completed effectively. The role includes conducting inspections to identify maintenance issues and safety hazards, overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance, coordinating with external vendors, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervisory & Leadership Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide leadership to the Warehouse Logistics Facilitator and learners.
  • Assign and oversee daily tasks, ensuring timely completion of maintenance, safety, and warehouse operations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and offer professional development opportunities.
  • Develop and implement training programs for staff to enhance skills related to warehouse logistics, maintenance, and safety compliance.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Operations & Safety Management

  • Conduct regular inspections of buildings, equipment, vehicles, grounds, and safety systems to identify and address maintenance and safety concerns.
  • Oversee completion of minor/emergency repairs and coordinate with external vendors for larger or specialized projects.
  • Maintain vendor relationships, ensuring efficient service and cost-effective solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations; update policies and procedures as needed.
  • Lead safety training initiatives for employees and maintain proper documentation, including Safety Data Sheets.
  • Oversee custodial duties, ensuring cleanliness and organization of warehouse and office spaces.
  • Manage inventory of cleaning supplies, tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Assist in planning and executing warehouse improvements and operational efficiency strategies.

Logistics & Warehouse Support

  • Oversee food pick-up, unloading, and storage in the warehouse.
  • Ensure smooth operations of the Peoples Pantry by coordinating with relevant teams.
  • Monitor and optimize warehouse workflows, storage solutions, and logistics strategies.
  • Support the Warehouse Logistics Facilitator in delivering training programs as needed.

Logistics & Warehouse Support

  • Assist with grounds maintenance, ensuring outdoor areas remain safe and presentable.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, safety inspections, and vendor services.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all facility and safety-related matters.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership

III. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to interact eectively with employees, clients, and vendors of all levels
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills with ability to make sound judgements under pressure
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemical safety and use of cleaning equipment
  • Self-directed with great attention to detail

IV. DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Exceptional management, teaching, communication, and presentation skills are essential. Hands-on experience in warehouse logistics, inventory management, and forklift operation. An adept understanding of safety regulations, instructional design, adaptable training methods. Forklift operation certification preferred. A relevant bachelors degree or a minimum of 4 years' experience in warehouse logistics, forklift operation, or related area can substitute.
