Job description

**This is an in-person role**
The Faculty and Technical Resource Specialist ensures that all on-site and cloud-based technical resources supporting Media Design School (MDS) programs at Strayer University operate reliably and meet established specifications. This role is responsible for the rapid diagnosis and resolution of technical issues to minimize disruption to instructional delivery and the student experience.
Technical resources include, but are not limited to: classroom hardware (such as audiovisual systems, instructor station computers and peripherals, loudspeakers, and MIDI keyboards), associated software platforms, and network infrastructure including LAN connectivity, internet access, and cloud-based storage systems. The Specialist also ensures that MDS facilities and systems align with Strayer University IT standards and SEI security requirements, remain current with organizational policies, and support effective collaboration with internal stakeholders.
In addition, this role supports the academic mission by ensuring that MDS students-both on-campus and online-receive high-quality, professional instruction and assistance in the effective use of industry-standard hardware and software relevant to their fields of study.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and ensures smooth operation of all hardware and software installations for MDS programs in Atlanta.
  • Installation and testing of all new hardware and software
  • Interfaces with IT, Security, and Digital Workplace officers.
  • Performs or arranges for all necessary maintenance of technical systems
  • Serves as Lead Instructor for the Music Design Technology Lab I/II course sequence.
  • Arranges for selected adjunct teachers, visiting lecturers, and other specialists to supplement instruction in Music Design Technology Lab I/II course sequence.
  • Seek opportunities to add value and perform additional duties as assigned to support the University's mission and goals.

Job Skills:

  • Strong ability to diagnose and resolve network issues and outages efficiently.
  • Advanced proficiency in music production software, including Logic Pro X, Cubase, Pro Tools Studio, Sibelius, Dorico, and MuseScore.
  • Professional-level keyboard (piano) skills, acquired through formal training and/or equivalent self-directed experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in MIDI-based music production, including sequencing, programming, and editing.
  • Full competency in digital signal processing (DSP), audio mixing, and mastering.
  • Working knowledge of game audio middleware, such as Wwise and FMOD.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and instructional skills, with a proven ability to patiently and effectively support technically inexperienced students.
  • Demonstrated alignment with SEI's Success Behaviors, including inclusive teamwork, continuous learning, mission-driven execution, and innovative problem solving.

Work Experience:

  • 10 years of combined experience between teaching/operations
  • Experience managing and supporting Local Area Networks (LANs), including monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience as assistant/programmer for a professional composer (preferred)
  • Experience as a Pro Tools operator or recording studio assistant engineer (preferred)
  • Experience as director of technology or network manager for a music production company (preferred)
  • Experience in running workshops, masterclasses, webinars in music technology, and any and all classroom teaching experience (preferred)

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Music, Music Production, Audio Engineering, Systems Management and/or related fields.

Certificates, licenses and registrations:

  • Third party certification in the use and instruction of Apple Logic Pro X (Preferred)
  • Professional certification as Pro Tools operator (preferred)
  • Certification as a licensed instructor for sites like linda.com or MacProVideo.com (preferred)


Other:

  • Must be able to travel occasionally should a business need arise. For most roles travel would not be common. Travel may involve plane, car or metro. In accordance with ADA policies, reasonable accommodations regarding travel limitations can be provided. Travel will be more common for roles such as Account Executives (25 - 50%), senior leaders (10 - 20%) or Capella Core Faculty (5 - 10%).
  • Ability to work onsite in Corporate or Campus location (in a typical office environment) may be required based on role. If so, this would include being mobile within the office, including movement from floor-to-floor using elevators or stairs.
