What is a logging job?

As a logger, your job is to cut down trees and get the logs ready to transport. This frequently includes helping trim and delimb each fallen tree, determining which trees are suitable for use as timber, and doing other forestry work as needed. Logging often requires the use of specialized equipment and machinery, including cranes, boats, and chainsaws, and loggers usually take on several roles to get the job done. Some details of this job vary based on factors like where you work and what sort of wood you're cutting down. You are also responsible for ensuring forests are appropriately managed and cut in a way that guarantees the longevity of the area.

What is a logging job?

Logging jobs involve the process of cutting down trees, transporting the timber, and processing it for use in industries such as construction, paper, and furniture manufacturing. Workers in logging may include loggers, equipment operators, truck drivers, and supervisors. These roles require operating heavy machinery, maintaining safety standards, and working outdoors in various weather conditions. Logging jobs are physically demanding and often located in remote forested areas.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a logging worker?

To thrive as a Logging Worker, you need physical stamina, mechanical aptitude, and a basic understanding of forestry practices, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with chainsaws, logging machinery, and safety systems, as well as completion of safety training or certification programs, is typically required. Attention to detail, teamwork, and a strong commitment to safety are vital soft skills in this hazardous environment. These skills ensure efficient timber harvesting while minimizing accidents and environmental impact.

What are common challenges faced by logging professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Logging professionals often encounter challenges such as working in remote or rugged terrain, adhering to strict safety regulations, and dealing with unpredictable weather conditions. These challenges can be managed by using specialized equipment, participating in regular safety training, and maintaining clear communication with team members. Additionally, staying updated on best practices and environmental guidelines helps ensure sustainable and efficient logging operations.

What is the difference between Logging vs Forestry Worker?

AspectLoggingForestry Worker
Required CredentialsHigh school diploma, safety certifications, equipment operation trainingHigh school diploma, safety certifications, environmental knowledge
Work EnvironmentForests, logging sites, heavy machineryForests, conservation areas, outdoor settings
Industry UsagePrimary role in timber harvestingSupporting roles in forest management and conservation

Logging involves the active cutting and harvesting of trees, often using heavy machinery, while forestry workers support forest management, conservation, and reforestation efforts. Both roles require safety certifications and outdoor work, but logging is more focused on timber extraction, whereas forestry workers focus on sustainable practices and environmental protection.

Do loggers make a lot of money?

Logging is a physically demanding job that can offer competitive wages, especially for experienced workers or those working in remote areas. However, salaries vary widely depending on location, experience, and the scale of logging operations, with median pay often below other skilled trades. Certifications and safety training can improve earning potential in this field.

How much do you get paid for logging?

Logging workers typically earn an average hourly wage ranging from $15 to $25, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of the work. Salaries can vary based on whether the position is seasonal or year-round, and additional skills such as operating heavy machinery may influence pay rates.

Job description

GHR Full Stack Developer (React) - AVP
Corporate Functions Technology
Reports to: Managing Director, Corporate Functions Technology
Role Overview
The GHR Full Stack Developer (AVP) will design, build, and support modern employee-facing experiences and services across the Global Human Resources (GHR) technology ecosystem. This role is hands-on and delivery-oriented, with a strong emphasis on building React-based web applications, developing and consuming APIs (including Workday integrations), and deploying cloud-native solutions on AWS that meet enterprise standards for security, resiliency, and performance.
The ideal candidate is a strong engineer who can work closely with product owners, UX, architects, and integration teams to deliver high-quality solutions that improve employee experience globally.
Key Responsibilities
Full Stack Engineering (React + APIs)
  • Build and enhance React/TypeScript applications for HR employee journeys, self-service experiences, and internal tools.
  • Develop and maintain backend services and APIs (REST/GraphQL where applicable) to support HR use cases and data needs.
  • Implement reusable components, shared utilities, and frontend patterns to drive consistency and speed across GHR experiences.
  • Partner with integration teams to implement and consume Workday APIs and related middleware patterns (e.g., Workday REST/SOAP, Workday Studio/Extend, integration platform endpoints where relevant).
AWS Cloud Development & Deployment
  • Design and deploy applications on AWS using cloud-native patterns and services (e.g., compute, storage, API management, logging/monitoring).
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and environment promotion strategies aligned to enterprise standards.
  • Build for performance, scalability, and resiliency, including observability and operational readiness.
Employee Experience Delivery
  • Collaborate with UX and HR stakeholders to translate employee needs into intuitive, accessible, mobile-friendly web experiences.
  • Ensure solutions support global users, including considerations for localization, content presentation, and varying regional requirements.
  • Participate in user story refinement, estimation, sprint execution, and release readiness activities.
Quality, Security & Operational Excellence
  • Write high-quality, maintainable code with strong unit/integration testing practices.
  • Apply secure coding practices and ensure solutions meet enterprise requirements for IAM, MFA, data protection, auditability, and logging.
  • Support production readiness, incident triage, defect remediation, and continuous improvement of deployed services.
Collaboration & Engineering Culture
  • Work effectively in a matrixed environment alongside architects, product owners, program managers, and vendors.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Mentor junior engineers and help raise the technical bar across the portfolio.
Experience & Competencies
  • 5-10+ years of hands-on full stack development experience in a large enterprise environment.
  • Strong expertise with React and modern frontend engineering practices (TypeScript, component architecture, state management, testing).
  • Demonstrated experience building and consuming APIs, including integration patterns supporting enterprise platforms.
  • Experience deploying applications to AWS, including familiarity with cloud-native architectures and CI/CD practices.
  • Practical experience with Workday integrations/APIs (direct Workday API usage or via integration platforms/middleware) strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile delivery, and working in a product/delivery team model.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working in regulated environments with security and compliance expectations is a plus.
Preferred / Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with employee experience platforms, intranets, or HR service delivery tools.
  • Exposure to enterprise identity/access patterns (SSO, OAuth/OIDC, SAML) and role-based access controls.
  • Experience with observability tooling (centralized logging, tracing, monitoring) and production support models.
  • Prior experience supporting global rollouts and regional requirements.
