To thrive as a Locum Remote Electrical Engineer, you need a solid grounding in electrical engineering principles, a relevant degree, and professional registration or licensure. Familiarity with CAD software, simulation tools like MATLAB or ETAP, and remote collaboration platforms is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and clear communication are crucial for excelling in a remote and often project-based environment. These skills ensure effective project delivery, compliance with technical standards, and seamless collaboration across distributed teams.

What are some common challenges faced by locum remote electrical engineers, and how can they be managed?

Locum remote electrical engineers often encounter challenges such as quickly adapting to new project teams, understanding unfamiliar systems, and maintaining effective communication across distances. Successfully managing these challenges involves being proactive about onboarding, asking clarifying questions, and leveraging digital collaboration tools to stay connected with team members. Flexibility, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to learn new workflows are essential for thriving in this dynamic, project-based environment.

Position Overview

Are you an electrical design expert ready to transition from production to true project stewardship? We are seeking a high-caliber Electrical Engineer to join our rapidly expanding team of 65+ professionals. With the recent launch of our Austin and Houston offices, we are scaling to meet the demands of high-impact projects across the Healthcare, Government, Education, and Transportation sectors. In this role, you won't just be drafting circuits; you will be architecting sophisticated power distribution systems and steering complex projects from initial concept through final commissioning.

Joining our team means entering an environment dedicated to technical excellence, mentorship, and work-life harmony. We offer a modern hybrid schedule and a unique "WFH Time Bank," providing the flexibility to work from home for up to three weeks annually on top of our standard remote Fridays. This is a definitive growth platform for a professional who thrives on evaluating diverse engineering options and delivering sensible, high-impact solutions for a national client base.

Core Responsibilities

  • System Architecture: Lead the planning and design of complex electrical and power distribution systems, ensuring all technical solutions align with client needs and industry best practices.

  • Project Stewardship: Guide projects through the entire lifecycle, managing timelines and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams across our Texas offices.

  • Technical Mentorship: Act as a dedicated resource for junior staff, providing over-the-shoulder training and formal guidance to elevate the collective technical IQ of the electrical department.

  • Quality Control & Compliance: Oversee rigorous QC processes for all electrical deliverables, ensuring strict adherence to NEC, local codes, and the firm's internal standards of excellence.

  • BIM & Digital Integration: Leverage Revit and Bluebeam to develop high-fidelity models, ensuring seamless coordination between electrical systems and architectural/mechanical constraints.

  • Sector Leadership: Apply specialized knowledge to project-specific requirements within our Healthcare, Government, Education, and Transportation teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 3 to 20+ years of engineering experience within an A/E or consulting environment.

  • Education: B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.

  • Licensure: Active EIT certification required; Professional Engineer (PE) license highly preferred.

  • Software Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced command of Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Licensure: Active PE License in the State of Texas (or ability to obtain via comity).

  • Leadership Experience: Demonstrated history of mentoring junior engineers or leading design teams.

  • Sector Expertise: Specific experience in Healthcare (OSHPD/AHCA), K-12/Higher Ed, or complex Government facilities.
