Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for a locum tenens assignment at a well-established community hospital in Alton, Illinois. This is a high-volume emergency department with strong physician support and a collaborative care model.


Facility Details
  • Hospital Beds: ~300
  • Emergency Department Beds: ~25
  • Annual ED Volume: ~40,000 visits
  • Trauma Designation: Level II
  • EMR: Epic
  • Specialty Backup: Full range including Cardiology, Neurology, Orthopedics, General Surgery, and ICU support

Staffing Model
  • 24/7 physician coverage
  • Advanced Practice Provider coverage across multiple shifts
  • Team-based environment with strong support staff

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and treat patients across all acuity levels
  • Perform procedures within scope (laceration repair, I&D, splinting, etc.)
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Collaborate closely with supervising physicians and specialists
  • Participate in codes and emergency response as needed

Requirements
  • Board Certified NP or PA
  • Active Illinois license (or ability to obtain quickly)
  • DEA required
  • ACLS, BLS required (PALS preferred)
  • Minimum 1–2 years of Emergency Medicine experience preferred
