Job description

Surgical Services Nurse

Level I Trauma Center with 794 beds and Magnet designation. The unit has 28 beds, including 2 hybrid rooms for CV/Vascular. Average census of approximately 60-75 surgical cases per day. Patient types include outpatient and inpatient, with diagnoses such as GSW, stabbings, transplant cases, general surgeries, GYN, urology, robotics, vascular, ortho, neuro, and open-heart surgeries. The hybrid room handles between 5-10 cases per day. Experience in adult open-heart cases is required for certain positions. Pediatric cases include open-heart, appendectomy, and cholecystectomy surgeries. Participation in specialty cases such as organ donation is included. Various roles available include OR Nurse, CVOR Nurse, Surgical Technologist, Hybrid IR Tech, and Surgical Assistant. Charge nurse has no patient assignment during weekdays and can assist during weekends and evenings. Support staff includes an anesthesiologist for bedside monitoring, resource nurses, surgeons, and an educator. The main technology in use is EPIC for electronic medical records. Additional equipment includes Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis for medication dispensing. Floating is not required for this position. Weekend rotation is every 4th weekend. Shifts include times at 0645-1515, 1445-1915, and 2245-0715. Scheduling is based on rotation, with no self-scheduling. The facility operates OR 24/7 for emergencies, with a skeleton crew for urgent cases during off hours. Holiday coverage is required. On-call duties are dependent on shift or service line with a 30-minute response time. Scrub color is designated. Unit culture involves teamwork and collaboration.
