What is a locum lawyer?

Locum lawyers are legal professionals who work on a temporary or contract basis to cover for permanent staff who may be on leave, during busy periods, or to fill gaps in a legal team. They are typically hired by law firms, in-house legal departments, or public sector organizations to provide immediate legal support without the long-term commitment of a permanent hire. Locum lawyers can specialize in various areas of law and often bring a wealth of experience from working in different environments. Their flexible working arrangements can be beneficial for both employers and the lawyers themselves.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a locum lawyer, and why are they important?
