Job description

Registered Nurse in Progressive Care Unit

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 18:45 - 19:15 Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 1 year required License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Accountability for their actions Knowledge of cardiac drips (Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Cardene, Cardizem) Description: The unit has 24 beds and a staff of 43. During the day shift, there are 24 patients with 1 charge nurse, 8 RNs, and nursing staff. During the night shift, there are also 24 patients with 1 charge nurse and 8 RNs. The patient ratio is 1:3. Equipment used on the unit includes Baxter IV pumps, Hillrom, iMobile with Apple, and telemetry. The electronic medical record system is Meditech. Candidates must demonstrate accountability for their actions. Knowledge of cardiac drips such as Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Cardene, and Cardizem is necessary. Strong communication skills with patients and the interdisciplinary team are preferred. Six months of experience in Progressive Care Unit is preferred. Typical procedures performed on the unit include: Days post-CABG, AVR/MVR, aortic root repairs, LVAD, immediate post-VATS (chest tubes), post vascular surgeries, and pre/post catheter lab and electrophysiology procedures (pacemaker/AICD, heart caths, PCIs, TAVR). Bedside procedures include paracentesis, thoracentesis, and PICC insertion. The ideal candidate will be caring and a great team player. Availability for 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule is required. Floating areas may include Med-Surg/tele and Ortho. Dress code includes royal blue scrubs. Unit guidelines and policies are available.
