Position Purpose
The Locksmith/General Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the integrity, security, and functionality of district locking systems, door hardware, and key management systems while also supporting general maintenance operations. This position ensures safe, secure, and properly functioning facilities across the district through preventative maintenance and repair services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Locksmith and Security Systems
  • Maintain all locks, keys, and door hardware in proper working condition across the district
  • Maintain accurate accounting and tracking of all keys and access systems
  • Manage and maintain the computerized key management system
  • Ensure integrity and security of the district master key system
  • Install, repair, and replace locks, cores, and door hardware as needed
  • Maintain door closures, hinges, and related hardware to ensure proper operation

Maintenance and Facility Support
  • Perform general maintenance tasks, including minor repairs across facilities
  • Complete preventative maintenance tasks, including HVAC filter replacements
  • Assist maintenance staff and other trades as needed to support facility operations
  • Climb ladders and work at heights as required
  • Maintain work vehicles, tools, and equipment in safe and operational condition
  • Maintain accurate records of daily work activities and completed tasks

Operational Expectations
  • Respond to work orders in a timely and efficient manner
  • Communicate effectively with school personnel regarding work requests and completion status
  • Clean and organize work areas upon completion of tasks
  • Follow all directives from supervisors and support department priorities
  • Maintain professionalism, teamwork, and positive working relationships

Qualifications
Education and Certification
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License required
  • Must maintain an acceptable driving record for insurability

Experience (Preferred)
  • Experience in locksmith work, door hardware systems, or facilities maintenance preferred
  • Experience with key management systems and access control systems preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of locks, key systems, and door hardware
  • Working knowledge of general maintenance practices and building systems
  • Ability to use locksmith tools and general maintenance equipment safely and effectively
  • Ability to follow directions and complete tasks independently
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in key control and security systems
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive security-related information
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff

Safety and Compliance
  • Follow all established safety procedures and protocols
  • Operate tools and equipment in accordance with safety standards
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in safe operating condition
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions or report them immediately to a supervisor
  • Comply with all district policies and applicable local, state, and federal regulations

Physical and Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds or more with assistance as needed
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and work at heights for extended periods
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and other environmental conditions associated with maintenance work
