Job description

Job Title: Crewperson 5 - Glass, Locks, Doors

Position Function: The Glass-Locks-Doors Crewperson 5 maintains and installs all plastic and glass fenestration, window sash and screens, and doors in the Wichita Public Schools. This includes doors of all types and the associated operating hardware, all metal and wood sash windows and appurtenances including weather stripping and the replacement of all broken glass. This position works in the key shop.

Employee Punctuality and Appearance:

  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position

Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Equipment: This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with WPS guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Travel between schools and central offices is required.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Ability to perform all tasks and work the hours required
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, or snow
  • Ability to wear proper safety equipment as required while performing the various responsibilities required for this position

  • Have exceptional decision making skills, able to be a crew leader on large jobs with little or no supervision. Snow removal is mandatory

  • Maintain an understanding of utilized materials and applications
  • Is able to read and work from blueprints and drawings as necessary
  • Possess learning knowledge of other unit operations
  • Performs work in a safe manner and reports any hazardous conditions

  • Possesses a work ethic that is strongly oriented toward both efficiency and customer service
  • Maintains appropriate licenses and certifications including a valid Kansas driver's license
  • Possesses superior knowledge of procedures, materials and equipment utilized in the designated area while displaying good workmanship, planning, and leadership
  • Supports the organizational goals, the mission of the Schools Service Center and the district
  • Works cooperatively with others and assists in maintaining open lines of communication
  • Works directly or indirectly under the Supervisor
