Locker Installer information

What is a locker installer?

Locker installers are skilled professionals responsible for assembling, installing, and securing lockers in various settings such as schools, gyms, offices, and public facilities. They read blueprints or installation instructions, ensure proper alignment and stability, and may modify locker units to fit specific spaces. Locker installers often use hand and power tools, follow safety guidelines, and may also provide maintenance or repair services for existing lockers. Their work ensures lockers are safe, functional, and meet customer specifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a locker installer?

To thrive as a Locker Installer, you need proficiency in basic carpentry, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to interpret blueprints or installation manuals, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant vocational training. Familiarity with hand and power tools, measuring devices, and sometimes OSHA safety certifications are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication with clients and team members are crucial soft skills. These competencies ensure accurate, safe, and efficient locker installations that meet client specifications and safety standards.

What are some common challenges faced by locker installers on the job site, and how can they be addressed?

Locker installers often encounter challenges such as working in tight or crowded spaces, ensuring precise alignment for doors and locks, and coordinating with other construction trades on site. To address these issues, it's important to carefully review installation plans, use appropriate tools for accurate measurements, and maintain clear communication with the project manager and other contractors. Flexibility and problem-solving skills are valuable, as each job site can present unique obstacles requiring on-the-spot adjustments.

Job description

Travel Installer - Custom Lockers & Casework (Nationwide Projects)
Full-Time Heavy Travel Based out of Kansas City
At SHIELD, we design, build, and install premium custom locker rooms and healthcare casework for professional sports teams, universities, and world-class medical facilities across the U.S.
This is not typical construction work - every project is custom, high-end, and built to impress.
If you like working with your hands, traveling the country, and seeing your work installed in incredible spaces - this is the job for you.
What This Role Looks Like
As a Travel Installer, you'll work alongside experienced installers to bring SHIELD's custom products to life on-site across the country.
You can expect to:
  • Travel nationwide roughly 21+ days per month (hotels, flights, and travel covered)
  • Install custom lockers, cabinetry, and specialty casework in athletic and healthcare facilities
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and basic carpentry techniques daily
  • Work as part of a tight-knit install crew to hit project deadlines
  • Problem-solve on site and adapt to unique custom builds
  • When not traveling, work in our Kansas City shop learning fabrication skills

What We're Looking For
You're a great fit if you:
  • Enjoy hands-on work and learning skilled trades
  • Are comfortable with frequent travel and flexible schedules
  • Have basic experience with tools, carpentry, fabrication, or construction
  • Take pride in quality work and teamwork
  • Can lift up to 70-75 lbs and handle physical job demands
  • Have a valid driver's license and can pass site/background requirements

Experience That's a Plus (Not Required)
  • Cabinetry, furniture, casework, or millwork experience
  • Reading blueprints or shop drawings
  • OSHA or safety certifications
  • Previous install, construction, or travel-based work

Why You'll Like Working at SHIELD
  • Travel the country on company projects
  • Work on high-end custom builds - not repetitive installs
  • Learn fabrication and advanced install skills
  • Strong team culture that looks out for each other
  • Steady full-time work with growth opportunities

Pay & Benefits
This is a full-time hourly (non-exempt) role with a strong benefits package, including:
  • Medical, Dental & Vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) match
  • Bonus program
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • 7 paid holidays
  • Short & long-term disability and life insurance

Schedule & Travel
  • Heavy travel role (majority of the month on the road)
  • Flexible hours including occasional nights and weekends depending on project timelines
  • When not traveling: work in our Kansas City shop
