The mission of Southern University and A&M College, an Historically Black, 1890 land-grant institution, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is to provide a student-focused teaching and learning environment that creates global leadership opportunities for a diverse student population where teaching, research, service, scholarly and creative expectations for students and faculty are achieved through the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs offered at the institution via different instructional modalities and via public service.
This Custodian maintains the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of university campus buildings.
Minimum Qualifications
Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or food service work.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties
  • Responsiblefor: Cleaning restrooms, offices, classrooms, stairwells, hallways, and other assigned areas, which include but not limited to; sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting and polishing ;mixing and or blending chemicals.
  • Empties trash, sanitizes restrooms periodically throughout the day in administrative and academic areas.
  • Operates assigned cleaning equipment based on the job to be done. This equipment may include but not limited to wet/dry vacuums, carpet extractors, restroom cleaning machine, floor polishers, floor cleaners and other equipment assigned and instructed by supervisor.
  • Required to attend scheduled monthly safety meetings, training of new equipment, etc.
  • Lock/unlock doors, tum off lights in areas within the building based on assigned rooms, report lost or stolen keys immediately based on the type of keys assigned; must report lost or stolen keys to Campus Police, Supervisor, and Key Control.
  • Performs other related work as directed or required.
