Summary/Purpose

To ensure Safety and Quality by increasing our accuracy to follow Standardized Work. Technicians placed on unfamiliar loops often resort to rushing as a result of poor technique and added waste in their motion. This can result in bad ergonomic situations (safety incidents) and poor quality. The trainer coaches Trainees to follow STW, be mindful of their ergonomic condition, and to remove waste from their motion so cycle time can be achieved consistently and maintained for sustained durations. This is done by revealing waste to the trainee through a series of challenges (AH-HA activities), then utilizing this knowledge in completing specific time related tasks. The trainer will also coach and regularly check in with new hires and help them assimilate to their teams.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:

Provide a safe working environment (5S) in which to conduct training.

  • Translate written documents and verbal communication as necessary.
  • Administers the Certified Line Trainer program.
  • Coach Trainees on proper methods and techniques to ensure Safe conditions and Quality products.
  • Coach Trainers on proper training technique (step training).
  • Assist with new hire surveys and follow ups meetings.
  • Provide Follow up with new hires on a regular basis, help assimilate new hires into their teams.
  • Ensure all necessary materials (4M) are in place, in the required quantities to conduct training.
  • Coach Trainees to remove waste from their process in order to achieve target conditions and provide feedback to leaders when trainee performance is not meeting expectation.
  • Operate machines and equipment to demonstrate latent energy and correct lock out practices.
  • Maintain appropriate training records such as trainee’s times and assessments in electronic systems.
  • Update Supervisors on performance results for trainees, and advise on job suitability when necessary.
  • Conducts follow up audits to ensure the new skillsets prevail and are utilized (PDCA cycle).
  • Determine any gaps between effective training and Production KPIs using PDCA cycle and work to implement necessary process improvements.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned, including supporting production.
  • Stay up on date on safety risks and train safe practices as directed.
  • Stay up to date on QPR’s and one point lessons, and assist with training in quality risk areas as directed.
  • Participate in kaizen activities including QC Circles.
  • May perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Verbal and written communication skills to create and deliver training material, mentor and coach Trainees to meet target conditions, communicate GPC mission and values, and communicate to immediate supervisor any issues with GPC Trainees, 5S, or 4M conditions.
  • Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision and accomplish team goals.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Demonstrated ability to use hand tools and various measuring devices.
  • Ability to learn and master new production processes quickly in order to train on them.
  • Ability to train, instruct and coach Trainees to achieve target conditions.
  • Apply PDCA thinking to training process.
  • Specific knowledge of applicable safety, quality, health, and environmental management systems.
  • To prepare, lead, present, and conduct training sessions via classroom and shop floor environment to small groups,  1on1, or to large group settings. 
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills to maintain control of situations and trainees during stressful and sometimes uncomfortable encounters.
  • Celebrate trainee’s successes with them.
  • Demonstrate and maintain respect to trainees.
  • Ability to provide encouragement to trainees that may become distressed during tasks.
  • Ability to ease and dissolve tensions during stressful situations that sometimes develops as trainees are developing skills.
 

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Excellent fine motor skills; finger, hand, and wrist dexterity.
  • Ability to walk approximately 6-7 miles over an 8-10 hour day.
  • Ability to stand for duration of shift; perform repetitive motions while walking or standing.
  • Ability to twist, press, turn, assemble, and handle components and/or assembled parts 600 - 750 times per shift.
  • Ability to pinch, reach, grasp, bend, lift, stretch, push, pull, and squat.
  • Ability to visually inspect parts and machines and read instructions, labels.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 32 pounds. 
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English and Spanish, and be able to translate between the two
  • Maintain a minimum of 40 hours/week.
