Job description

Location: Fort Wayne, IN

Job Type: Full-Time, Temporary Contract (approx. 3-4 months)

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (No nights, weekends, or holidays!)

Pay Rate: $19.00 - $23.00 / hour (based on experience)

Job Summary

A busy, friendly outpatient clinic in Fort Wayne is seeking an experienced Front Desk Medical Receptionist to lead our patient check-in, phone operations, and scheduling.

This role is primarily focused on front office patient access and administrative coordination, with light clinical support (rooming patients and checking basic vitals) as a secondary duty. If you are an experienced receptionist with basic rooming/vitals skills looking for a steady, Monday-Friday routine, this is the position for you!

Note: This is strictly a front office and light rooming position. There is NO phlebotomy, lab work, or invasive clinical procedures required.

Core Responsibilities (80% Front Office / 20% Clinical)
  • Front Desk Operations: Lead patient check-in and check-out, manage multi-line phone calls, and greet incoming patients with excellent customer service.

  • Patient Registration & Scheduling: Handle appointment scheduling, register new patients, update records, and collect co-pays or payments.

  • Insurance & Billing Support: Complete insurance verifications, check coverage, and ensure accurate billing detail entry in the system.

  • Medical Records: Organize and maintain digital patient files within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

  • Light Patient Support: Assist with rooming patients and capturing basic vital signs as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • 4+ Years of Experience: Solid background in medical front desk, patient access, or medical receptionist roles (a mix of front office and light MA duties is great).

  • Front Office Expertise: Strong experience with patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and collecting payments.

  • Basic Clinical Comfort: Proven experience taking vital signs and rooming patients.

  • Professionalism: Exceptional customer service, phone etiquette, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with standard EMR/EHR platforms.

  • Prior experience in outpatient hospital clinics or specialty practices (Rheumatology experience is a plus!).

For California Applicants:

We will consider for employment all qualified Applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with the requirements of applicable federal, state and local laws, including the City of Los Angeles' Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance (FCIHO), Los Angeles Fair Chance Ordinance for Employers (ULAC), The San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance (FCO) , and the California Fair Chance Act (CFCA).

This position is subject to a background check based on its job duties, which may include patient care, working with vulnerable populations, access to financial and confidential information, driving, working with heavy machinery, or working in a warehouse or laboratory environment. Due to these job duties, this position has a significant impact on the business operations and reputation, as well as the safety and well-being of individuals who may be cared for as part of the job position or who may interact with staff or clients.
