Job description

Brayman Construction is seeking an experienced Marine Fleet Supervisor (Towboat & Barge Operations) to support the Montgomery Lock & Dam Project in Monaca, Pennsylvania, a major U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) infrastructure project located on the Ohio River navigation system with an estimated 8-year duration.

This is a long-term, full-time leadership position responsible for overseeing marine equipment and vessel operations supporting heavy civil construction activities. The Marine Fleet Supervisor will coordinate the operation, maintenance, and deployment of barges, towboats, floating cranes, and other marine equipment used in construction operations within an active inland river navigation pool.

This position offers stable, long-term employment on a high-profile federal infrastructure project supporting the U.S. inland waterway system.


SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday - approximately 45 hours per week, with additional time as needed based on project needs.

MARINE FLEET SUPERVISOR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Marine Fleet Supervisor is responsible for coordinating marine operations and supervising crews operating vessels and floating equipment supporting heavy civil construction activities within an active inland river navigation pool.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising daily operations of the project marine fleet, including towboats, barges, floating cranes, and support vessels
  • Coordinating movement, positioning, and mooring of construction barges and crane barges within the navigation pool
  • Supporting marine construction activities including barge crane operations, pile driving, and material transport
  • Coordinating marine crews including towboat operators, deckhands, and equipment operators
  • Monitoring river conditions, commercial navigation traffic, and project activities within the inland river navigation system
  • Ensuring compliance with USACE requirements, U.S. Coast Guard regulations, and company safety policies
  • Coordinating marine logistics with project management and field supervision
  • Supporting lock and dam construction activities requiring barge positioning and fleet coordination
  • Maintaining equipment readiness and coordinating maintenance of marine vessels and floating equipment
  • Maintaining safe and organized marine work areas

The Marine Fleet Supervisor is expected to serve as a hands-on field leader, working alongside marine crews while coordinating equipment and personnel to support safe and efficient construction operations.


MARINE FLEET SUPERVISOR QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

  • Minimum 5-7 years of marine construction or inland river fleet operations experience
  • Experience supervising marine crews or barge fleet operations
  • Experience working on lock and dam construction projects or inland navigation pools
  • Knowledge of towboat operations, barge handling, and floating crane operations
  • Familiarity with inland river navigation systems and vessel positioning within active waterways
  • Strong understanding of marine safety practices, USACE requirements, and Coast Guard regulations
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to maintaining safe work practices
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Maritime licenses or marine safety certifications preferred
  • Recent and verifiable work history required

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed on and around water within an active inland river navigation pool supporting heavy civil construction operations. Duties involve working aboard towboats, barges, crane barges, and floating construction equipment in varying weather and river conditions.

SAFETY

This is a Safety Sensitive Position requiring work on project sites, including federal projects. Project sites contain various safety hazards associated with heavy construction. This position may require working at heights, in confined spaces, around heavy equipment, and under constantly changing circumstances. This position may also entail project site work at night and on weekends on an as needed basis. This position will be subject to more stringent drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.
