Job description

Job Title: Scheduler

Location: Newark Beth Israel Medical Ctr

Department Name: Perioperative Support Services

Pay Range: $20.39 - $20.39 per hour

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

Responsible for accurate and timely scheduling and data entry in the PICIS system. Coordinates operating room schedules and communicates schedule updates and conflicts. Assists physician’s patient visitors and staff as needed. Maintains confidentiality professionalism and effective communication throughout daily operations

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills required
  • Ability to operate communication systems including telephone copier and fax machine
  • Ability to use scheduling and operating room management systems
  • Ability to organize work independently and follow department policies and procedures,
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians nursing staff ancillary departments and leadership

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift: 8:00am-4:00pm
  • Monday-Friday 
  • Full time Day

Essential Functions:

  • Schedules surgical cases using physician preference cards and scheduling guidelines
  • Coordinates preadmission testing and needle localization scheduling
  • Finalizes daily operating room schedule by two pm,
  • Books emergency and add on cases appropriately
  • Verifies physician privileges and patient demographic information
  • Communicates schedule changes and updates to charge nurses and department staff
  • Transmits patient information through the proper chain of command
  • Performs operating room journaling and scheduling documentation
  • Demonstrates professionalism accountability teamwork and customer service
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and supports quality improvement initiatives
  • Accepts feedback and participates in ongoing education
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and cooperative problem solving
