Job description

Geologist, Junior - Blue Moon
Mariposa County, California
The Blue Moon Mine is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Geologist to join our dynamic team in Mariposa County, California. The successful candidate will support geological operations, contribute to exploration, logging and modeling activities, and gain hands-on experience in a cutting-edge mining environment focused on responsible resource development.
The Junior Geologist is accountable for Supervising at least 2 geology technicians.
Key Responsibilities
Exploration: Assist with discovery focused exploration on specific projects within the Blue Moon project through:
  • Increased geological understanding of the project and wider region
  • Developing good exploration targets with rigorous, but cost-effective testing and evaluation
  • Implement a variety of field exploration programs
  • Communicating results, observations and recommendations to management
  • Ensure all operations are conducted in a safe and environmentally sensitive manner with due regard to local community concerns
  • Expected to fully participate in geological mapping, drill core or chip logging, surface sampling, drill program execution, in addition to any supervisory responsibilities

Safety
  • Demonstrate personal commitment in regard to safety and environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
  • Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures
  • Ensure hazard management plans are observed.
  • Keep statutory and internal reporting as required.
  • Active participation to the Health & Safety system development

People
  • Supervise and review the work of direct reports and others and provide feedback to the Senior Geologist
  • Overview, provide direction and act as a technical reference point and mentor for staff while ensuring work outputs are in line with exploration program.
  • Be responsible for implementing and ongoing monitoring of performance and development review plans for all direct reports.
  • Ensure personnel have the appropriate equipment, licenses, skills, induction and training to safely undertake their tasks.
  • Encourage and facilitate effective and supportive communication between all team members and related department.
  • Be an active team member of the exploration group and company as a whole but also be proactive in individual lateral and forward thinking.

Production
  • Complete a minimum of 5,000m of exploration drilling for the financial year
  • Assist with maintaining daily/weekly/monthly quality control and exploration deliverable targets
