Crack Open the Possibilities – Pullets Handler (PM / Night Shift)!

As Pullet (Bird) Handlers, you will perform all duties of this position with the utmost respect and regard for the flock. This is a PM / night shift position, requiring availability to work evenings, overnight hours, and weekends as needed.

The proper mix, usage, waste, and location of all vaccinations must always be accurately recorded. You will work closely with the Pullet Handler Record Keeping Associate and Vaccination Associate to ensure proper documentation and vaccination cycles are maintained.

This Job Description includes activities assigned specifically to the Bird Handler position at Hickman’s Family Farms. All GMPs and SOPs must be followed in conjunction with UEP and Salmonella Enteritidis requirements and guidelines. Maintenance will ensure that tasks are completed in a timely manner.

  • All staff must shower in and shower out for biosecurity
  • Mandatory 72-hour quarantine in effect (if exposed to birds or visiting a “hot spot”)

Education and Experience:
  • No prior experience required; on-the-job training will be provided.
  • Previous experience in agricultural, farm, or animal care settings is helpful but not mandatory.
  • Basic familiarity with routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, inspecting, and minor repairs, is beneficial.
Physical Requirements:
  • Shower daily in and out of the facility to maintain personal hygiene and cleanliness due to the nature of the work environment.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift, bend, and move about the barn for long periods.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions (heat, cold, humidity).
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Capable of standing, bending, and walking for long durations.
Work Environment

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, hard hat, goggles, face shield, rubber boots, body harness, and/or ear plugs must always be worn when required.

  • Sanitation of all equipment after use is required, logged, and verified
  • Maintain cleanliness of barns and work areas; keep all lanes clear for safe access
  • Ensure proper feed levels and feed system operation
  • Ensure housing systems are in proper working condition
  • Clean egg pans under lubing and Niagara daily
  • Scrape and sweep all aisles daily
