What is local driving?

Local driving refers to operating a vehicle, usually a truck or van, within a specific geographic area, typically within a city or region, rather than driving long distances across states or countries. Local drivers are responsible for picking up and delivering goods or passengers within a set radius, allowing them to return home at the end of their shift. This job often involves multiple stops, frequent loading and unloading, and interacting with customers. Local drivers usually have set schedules and benefit from familiar routes and regular hours, making it a popular choice for those seeking work-life balance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a local driver, and why are they important?

To excel as a Local Driver, you need a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), a clean driving record, and strong knowledge of local routes and traffic regulations. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and basic vehicle maintenance tools is typically required. Reliability, attention to detail, and good communication skills help foster positive customer interactions and safe driving practices. These competencies ensure timely deliveries, compliance with safety standards, and high levels of customer satisfaction.

How does a local driving role typically structure daily routes and manage delivery schedules?

In a local driving position, routes are often planned in advance to maximize efficiency and minimize travel time, with drivers receiving their schedules at the start of each shift. Daily responsibilities include loading and unloading goods, making multiple stops within a specific geographic area, and adhering to strict delivery windows. Communication with dispatchers and clients is frequent to address changes or delays. Time management and familiarity with local roads are essential, as drivers must complete all deliveries within their shift while complying with safety regulations.

Job description

Overnight CDL‑A Driver – Local Routes- Stationed Satellite Fenton, MI

Steady Work | Strong Pay | Home After Every Shift

Liquid Environmental Solutions (LES) is hiring experienced CDL‑A drivers who want reliable, year-round work and don't mind getting their hands dirty. If you're looking for a stable overnight role with solid pay, overtime, and full benefits, this could be a great fit.

This is local overnight field service work operating tanker and vacuum trucks at commercial and industrial sites. It's hands-on, physical work — but it's honest, essential, and recession-resistant. And yes… it pays well.

What You'll Do

  • Operate CDL‑A tanker/vacuum trucks safely and efficiently
  • Perform overnight service work at customer facilities
  • Use industrial equipment such as hoses, pumps, and tanks
  • Complete DVIRs, safety checks, and service documentation
  • Work outdoors or industrial environments
  • Represent LES professionally with customers and teammates

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Overnight / night shift (required)
  • Local routes — no long-haul, no hotels
  • Overtime, weekends, and longer shifts available
  • Year-round work — no seasonal layoffs

What We're Looking For

  • Valid CDL‑A license (Tanker endorsement required)
  • Ability to perform physical work: lifting, pulling, climbing, bending
  • Comfort working in dirty, greasy, industrial settings
  • Strong safety mindset and acceptable driving record
  • Dependable, self-directed, and accountable

What You Get

  • Competitive hourly pay + overtime opportunities
  • Full benefits package: medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO
  • Well-maintained, modern equipment
  • Local work — go home when your shift ends
  • A stable company doing essential work that doesn't slow down

Why Drivers Stay

At LES, our drivers value job security, consistency, and being treated with respect. You'll work hard — but you'll be paid fairly, supported by a team, and have dependable work you can count on.

Apply today if you're ready for steady overnight driving with real earning potential.
