What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Local CDL Tanker driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Local CDL Tanker driver, you need a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker and often hazmat endorsements, along with a solid understanding of safe driving practices and federal transportation regulations. Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs), GPS navigation, and basic vehicle maintenance systems is typically required. Strong attention to detail, reliability, and effective communication skills help drivers manage safety protocols and customer interactions. These competencies are crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient transport of liquid cargo while complying with legal and safety standards.

What are common challenges faced by Local CDL Tanker drivers and how can they be managed?

Local CDL Tanker drivers often encounter challenges such as handling hazardous materials, maintaining strict safety standards, and adapting to varying delivery schedules. Managing these challenges requires a solid understanding of safety protocols, attention to detail during loading and unloading, and strong time management skills. Regular communication with dispatchers and adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations are essential for ensuring efficient and safe operations. Ongoing training and a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance can also help minimize risks and improve job performance.

What are Local CDL Tanker drivers?

Local CDL Tanker drivers are licensed commercial drivers who operate tanker trucks to transport liquids or gases—such as fuel, chemicals, or water—within a specific local or regional area. These drivers must hold a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with special endorsements like the Tanker (N) and often Hazardous Materials (H) endorsements. Their responsibilities include safely loading, transporting, and unloading cargo while following strict safety and environmental regulations. Local routes typically allow drivers to return home daily, making the job attractive to those seeking predictable schedules. Safety, attention to detail, and adherence to federal and state regulations are essential in this role.

Job description

Overnight CDL-A Driver - Local Routes
Steady Work | Strong Pay | Home After Every Shift
Liquid Environmental Solutions (LES) is hiring experienced CDL-A drivers who want reliable, year-round work and don't mind getting their hands dirty. If you're looking for a stable overnight role with solid pay, overtime, and full benefits, this could be a great fit.
This is local overnight field service work operating tanker and vacuum trucks at commercial and industrial sites. It's hands-on, physical work - but it's honest, essential, and recession-resistant. And yes... it pays well.
What You'll Do
  • Operate CDL-A tanker/vacuum truckssafely and efficiently
  • Perform overnight service work at customer facilities
  • Use industrial equipment such as hoses, pumps, and tanks
  • Complete DVIRs, safety checks, and service documentation
  • Work outdoors or industrial environments
  • Represent LES professionally with customers and teammates

Schedule & Work Environment
  • Overnight / night shift (required)
  • Local routes- no long-haul, no hotels
  • Overtime, weekends, and longer shifts available
  • Year-round work- no seasonal layoffs

What We're Looking For
  • Valid CDL-A license (Tanker endorsement required)
  • DNR Operator Certification (Required post-hire; LES covers cost, candidate must pass exams)
  • ability to operate manual transmission
  • Ability to perform physical work: lifting, pulling, climbing, bending
  • Comfort working in dirty, greasy, industrial settings
  • Strong safety mindset and acceptable driving record
  • Dependable, self-directed, and accountable

What You Get
  • Competitive hourly pay + overtime opportunities
  • Full benefits package: medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO
  • Well-maintained, modern equipment
  • Local work- go home when your shift ends
  • A stable company doing essential work that doesn't slow down

Why Drivers Stay
At LES, our drivers value job security, consistency, and being treated with respect. You'll work hard - but you'll be paid fairly, supported by a team, and have dependable work you can count on.
We fully sponsor and cover all costs for you to obtain your Wisconsin DNR Operator Certification after hire-it's legally required for this role, but we'll pay for it and guide you through the process.
This is a hands-on, physically active role driving 10-speed manual vacuum pump trucks, providing essential environmental services, and returning home daily.
The selected candidate may be eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $2,500, based on qualifications and applicable terms.
Key Requirement:
This position requires you to obtain a Wisconsin DNR Operator Certification to legally operate specific pump trucks in our fleet. LES will fully sponsor the certification fee, but you must be willing and able to study for, take, and pass the required exams within a designated timeframe. Failure to acquire and maintain this certification will result in disqualification from the role.
  • DNR Operator Certification (Required post-hire; LES covers cost, candidate must pass exams)
Important Note on DNR Certification:
Regardless of any prior DNR certifications held, this certification must be obtained under Liquid Environmental Solutions specifically. Certification from a previous employer will not transfer. LES will cover all certification costs, but you will be required to:
  • Register for and attend in-person DNR exam sessions across Wisconsin
  • Successfully pass required exams under Wisconsin DNR regulations (Ch. NR 114, 146, 499, 524 Wis. Adm. Code)
  • Maintain active certification while employed

Failure to acquire and maintain this certification is grounds for termination, as it is a mandatory legal requirement for this position.
Apply today if you're ready for steady overnight driving with real earning potential.
