CDL Class A Driver (LTL) - Cedar Rapids, IA

Spee Dee Delivery is a family owned and operated company that was started in 1978 by Donald and Sylvia Weeres. Our core business is in standard, next-day, ground delivery. The corporate headquarters and main sort facility is located in St. Cloud, MN. We currently employ over 1,800 employees company wide and over the years we have expanded throughout the Midwest.

Job Summary

The CDL Class A Driver (LTL) is responsible for driving a tractor-trailer combination or straight truck to deliver and pick up palletized freight and/or large shipments.

Hours and Wages

  • Monday-Friday, 7:30AM start - completion of route
  • 10-15 hours of overtime expected each week
  • Paid OT at time and a half after 40 hours per week
  • $23.00-$27.00 per hour, based on experience

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct a pre-trip inspection before driving to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in good working order
  • Turn in pre-trip form and complete mileage and maintenance forms
  • Deliver palletized freight in a timely manner to customers and pick up freight from shippers
  • Verify all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate
  • Collect payment for shipments as necessary and return bill of ladings to the office for billing purposes
  • Maintain all required certifications required by DOT and company safety policies
  • Wash the exterior of tractor and equipment daily
  • Assist other drivers with loading, delivery, or pick up as needed

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to operate a manual transmission
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a doubles/triples endorsement
  • Must possess good customer service and organizational skills
  • Must be able to work independently and make quick decisions

Education and Experience

  • At least 21 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Hold a valid CDL Class A driver's license with a good driving record that meets company standards

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to pass a DOT physical
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Full range of motion with no limits on grasping, standing, squatting, stair climbing, walking, etc.
  • Ability to work with all types to freight which include, but are not limited to hazardous material, perishable food and alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals
