Position Overview

A Forklift Operator is responsible for operating a forklift to safely and efficiently move materials within a warehouse, distribution center, or other industrial settings. This role involves loading and unloading materials, organizing inventory, and adhering to safety protocols to prevent accidents.

Accountabilities

Equipment Operation

  • Counterbalance forklift and Reach Truck experience is mandatory.
  • Maintain all required licenses and upgrades skills as new equipment becomes available.
  • Makes safe equipment operation a priority.
  • Understands and does not exceed machine carrying or lift capacities.
  • Utilizes knowledge of products and weights.
  • Follows all safety protocols and restrictions.
  • Report all structural damage that may have been caused by impact.
  • Does not exceed load stacking capacities or shelving weight capacities.

Administration and Safety

  • Complete required documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain department equipment, company materials in an organized manner.
  • Coach other employees regarding process and equipment skills.
  • Ensure current knowledge and compliance with all safety requirements and with each piece of equipment operated.
  • Follow all loss prevention policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the continuous improvement team, and always look for improved ways of performing your duties.
  • Identify and demonstrate use of personal protective equipment.
  • Keep work area free from clutter, recycling waste, and removing all dust daily.
  • Report all activities and hazards that may create an unsafe work environment.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience

  • 3+ years’ experience as a Forklift Operator.
  • Experience working in a Warehouse.
  • Experience working in a production facility is an asset.
  • Understanding of warehouse stocking procedures.
  • Experience handling large or bulky PVC, Aluminum or wood products.

Capabilities

  • Communicate effectively in English both verbal and written.
  • The ability to move around the plant floor and maneuver materials and equipment.
  • Ability to multitask, organize your time and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Comfortable with high volume workload with the ability to “roll up your sleeves” and jump in.
  • Strong work ethic, action oriented and desire to achieve excellence.
  • High comfort level working in a fast-paced team environment that is constantly changing.
  • Pressure to produce tangible results and complete projects within tight timelines.
