SUMMARY:
Responsible for moving raw materials from the storage areas / materials supermarkets and components from the production areas to the work areas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs a combination of tasks in order to distribute materials to the rest of the work force as needed in a timely fashion.
  • Material placement plan and production schedule are read to plan the production for the day and to assure accurate delivery of mattress materials to the rest of the team.
  • Lift and carry materials from trains to 20" high mattress assembly line. Second person assistance is available for king and queen size base units.
  • Sorts and places materials on the mattress assembly line according to predetermined sequence, such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
  • The material gathering is performed by pushing a cart up and down the aisle to "pull" the material needed for the build process. This role requires walking the entire shift and good shoulder strength to pull the materials from the racks and bins where they are stored.
  • Learn the many different types of materials by sight, using the code as a backup; clean and maintain the unit build and mattress build material loading and storage areas while recycling all cardboard and plastic.
  • Records number of materials that are damaged or substituted.
  • Interact and respond professionally to co-worker's requests.
  • Perform housekeeping in assigned area/place all scrap material in baler.
  • Safe operation of the baler is important.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for a minimum for several hours per day.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving forklift traffic.
  • Continuous pushing and pulling a wheeled cart containing the units and materials.
  • Frequent lifting of units on and off of carts.
