Load Manager information

What is a load manager?

Load Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing and coordinating the loading and unloading of cargo, typically in industries such as aviation, shipping, or logistics. They ensure that cargo is distributed correctly to maintain safety, balance, and efficiency. Load Managers also verify documentation, supervise loading teams, and communicate with pilots or transport operators to optimize the weight and balance of the vehicle. Their role is critical for operational safety and timely deliveries.

What are some common challenges faced by load managers, and how can they be addressed in daily operations?

Load Managers often encounter challenges such as coordinating last-minute changes in cargo, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and managing communication between flight crews, ground staff, and logistics teams. These challenges require strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances. Building effective communication channels and using load management software can help streamline processes and reduce errors. Additionally, ongoing training in regulations and best practices helps Load Managers stay prepared for complex or unexpected situations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a load manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Load Manager, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of cargo handling and weight distribution, often supported by relevant logistics or aviation certifications. Familiarity with load planning software, cargo management systems, and safety regulations is typically required. Excellent organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help you coordinate with teams and handle unexpected challenges. These skills ensure safe, efficient, and compliant loading operations, which are critical for operational success and safety.

What is the difference between Load Manager vs Warehouse Supervisor?

AspectLoad ManagerWarehouse Supervisor
CredentialsLogistics or supply chain certifications, relevant experienceWarehouse management certifications, safety training
Work EnvironmentLoading docks, transportation hubs, logistics centersWarehouse facilities, storage areas, distribution centers
Employer & IndustryLogistics companies, freight carriers, distribution firmsRetail, manufacturing, distribution companies
Primary ResponsibilitiesOverseeing loading/unloading, ensuring timely shipmentsManaging warehouse staff, inventory, safety protocols

While both roles are vital in logistics and supply chain operations, the Load Manager primarily focuses on coordinating and overseeing the loading and unloading of goods, ensuring shipments are timely and efficient. The Warehouse Supervisor manages overall warehouse operations, including staff, inventory, and safety. Understanding these differences helps employers and job seekers identify the right role based on skills and career goals.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Informatica ETL contractor to partner with our Claims Business unit. In this role, you will act as a core technical problem-solverโ€”evaluating operational challenges, auditing legacy data workflows, and designing robust, modern ETL frameworks.

You will work closely with our database team and provide heavy production support to ensure high data reliability. Prior experience in the P&C Insurance industry is not required; we are prioritizing strong core technical skills in Informatica PowerCenter and Oracle, a dedicated support mindset, and outstanding communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

Problem Analysis & Solution Design

Deep dive into existing data workflows within the Claims business area to identify performance bottlenecks, operational pain points, and systemic errors.

Propose, design, and implement end-to-end technical solutions to improve overall system efficiency and business capabilities.

ETL Architecture & Framework Development

Audit and research current ETL processes to recommend operational improvements and architectural changes.

Design, build, and deploy flexible, scalable, and reusable ETL frameworks.

Collaboration & Production Support

Work hand-in-hand with the Database Engineering/DBA teams to align data models, optimize SQL queries, and streamline deployments.

Provide comprehensive, hands-on production support, root-cause analysis, and performance tuning for critical ETL data pipelines.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Stack & Experience

Informatica: Advanced expertise in Informatica (PowerCenter and/or IICS) for building, managing, and troubleshooting data pipelines.

Oracle: Strong knowledge of Oracle databases, including complex SQL querying, PL/SQL, and query performance optimization.

Support Expertise: Extensive, proven experience in production support, incident management, and system maintenance.

ETL Frameworks: Demonstrated background in auditing legacy ETL flows and designing new, scalable framework patterns.

Soft Skills & Soft Requirements

Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to articulate technical issues clearly to business stakeholders.

Interpersonal Savvy: Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, particularly when partnering with database teams and business leads.

Domain Experience: No Insurance experience required. We welcome candidates from any industry background who bring strong ETL engineering and support skills.
