Please Note: This is an Extra-Help position utilized on an as-needed basis, therefore it does not qualify for benefits.
This job opportunity is for the Meals on Wheels program.
Essential functions of this position require frequent bending, twisting and getting in and out of transport van to deliver meals. Lifting requirement of up to 50 pounds frequently.
About the Position: Under general supervision of the Community Services Supervisor, this position is responsible for transporting clients, food and supplies to and from agency sites throughout Tehama County.
Examples of Duties
  • Follows a daily assigned route and delivers meals to homebound clients.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with applicable Federal, State, County, Department, and Division laws, regulations rules and guidelines.
  • Carries a secured money box, receives donations from homebound clients and congregate sites and turns it in to the Community Services Supervisor on a daily basis.
  • Performs "health and welfare" checks at clients' residences and calls for emergency assistance if needed.
Ability to:
  • Safely operate vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws.
  • Load and unload a delivery vehicle, ensuring all items and supplies are properly secured.
Knowledge of:
  • Traffic laws and defensive driving
  • Sanitation and safety techniques

Education, Experience & Licenses
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduation from High School or GED equivalent

License & Special Requirements:
Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain throughout the duration of employment, the following:
  • ServSafe Certificate
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C Driver License and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Must attend defensive driving course within 30 days of employment and every 2 years thereafter

In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Transporter - Meals on Wheels (Extra Help), as well as subsequent vacancies, which occur during the life of the eligibility list.

SALARY:
  • Annual salary step increases based upon satisfactory performance and completion of one year of employment (Step A to E).

HEALTH:
  • Approximately 80% of the premium for medical, dental, and vision plan is paid by the County (EPO Plan). The plan covers the employee and all eligible dependents at NO ADDITIONAL COST!
  • Employee premiums are $234.54 per month as of January 1, 2025 and $266.97 per month as of January 1, 2026 for employee and all eligible dependents.

PAID LEAVES:
  • Benefits also include an annual paid leave plan of
    • 96 hours of vacation (increases upon continuous years of service)
    • 96 hours of sick leave
    • 14 paid holidays plus one 8 hour personal holiday

LIFE INSURANCE:
  • Approximately 80% of the premium for a $30,000 life insurance plan for the employee is paid for by the County.

RETIREMENT:
  • A retirement plan through CalPERS.
    • CalPERS Formulas:
      • Classic member = 2% @ 55
      • New Member = 2% @ 62
  • A Deferred Compensation retirement plan option with a County match of up to a maximum of $60 per month.
