Description

Midwest Sports+, a leader in high school sports broadcasting in Minnesota, South Dakota, and Iowa, is out to connect viewers across all platforms, creating a destination for fans, families, and athletes alike, with high-quality sports content and streaming. Midwest Sports+ is part of Forum Communications Company, a 5th-generation, family-owned, Upper Midwest media company.


This is a full-time position that will be based out of Iowa City, Iowa - interested candidates should live within approximately a 60 mile radius of Iowa City, Iowa and be able to travel within the surrounding area on a consistent basis.


Job Summary

The Lead Sports Content Creator role combines live sports production with storytelling, social media content creation, and collaboration with freelance contributors.


Essential Functions

  • Live Game Production: Assist in the production of live sports broadcasts, including setup, camera operation, switching, and graphics integration.
  • Video Editing: Edit highlight packages, feature stories, and social-media-friendly clips for digital platforms.
  • Storytelling: Produce engaging sports stories and features that resonate with local and regional audiences.
  • Sales Support: Assist sales team in developing, closing, and fulfilling sales opportunities surrounding game and shoulder content.
  • Content Creation for Digital Platforms: Develop videos optimized for social media, web, and mobile consumption.
  • Collaboration with Freelancers: Coordinate with freelance videographers, photographers, and other content creators in Iowa to ensure consistent quality and timely delivery.
  • Cross-Platform Contribution: Work closely with the teams on special initiatives, promotional content, and other multimedia projects as needed.
  • Technical Maintenance: Ensure equipment is ready for live and recorded productions,
  • troubleshoot technical issues, and maintain organized media archives.
  • Team Support: Assist colleagues across the FCC network on video production and content
  • projects when needed.


Qualifications

  • Proven experience in video production and editing, preferably in sports or live event coverage.
  • Proficiency with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro) and live streaming tools.
  • Strong storytelling skills with an eye for compelling visuals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and creating platform-specific content.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for live sports coverage.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a driving record that is insurable by the company.
  • Must carry an acceptable level of vehicle insurance as required by the company.

Expected compensation for this role is between $55,000 and $65,000/year + potential for commission based on sales, based on qualifications and experience.
