What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Live-In Temporary Caregiver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live-In Temporary Caregiver, you need experience in personal care, basic household management, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with care documentation tools and, in some cases, CPR or first aid certification is beneficial. These skills ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of those under your care during temporary assignments.

What are some common challenges faced by live-in temporary employees, and how can they be managed?

Live-in temporary employees often face challenges related to adapting quickly to new household environments, building trust with hosts, and maintaining boundaries between work and personal life. To manage these, it's important to communicate expectations clearly with employers, establish a daily routine, and set aside personal time when possible. Flexibility and strong interpersonal skills are key to successfully navigating different household dynamics and ensuring a positive experience for both parties.

What are live-in temporary workers?

Live-in temporary workers are individuals who reside at their employer's home or provided accommodation for a short-term period to provide services such as caregiving, housekeeping, or childcare. These positions are typically filled when families or employers need immediate, short-term assistance due to circumstances like illness, travel, or a regular caregiver’s absence. The arrangement usually includes room and board, and the duration can range from a few days to several weeks. Live-in temporary workers are expected to be available for work as needed during their stay, with specific duties outlined by the employer.

Job description

Overview
DALLAS, TX (NATIONWIDE SEARCH) - A warm, welcoming family in a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood in Dallas is seeking a compassionate and dependable FULL-TIME LIVE-IN NANNY to provide dedicated support for their 11-year-old son, who is on the autism spectrum. This is a truly special opportunity for the right person, someone who is calm, optimistic, and energetic, and who finds genuine joy in showing up for a child in a meaningful and consistent way every single day.
Their son is a sweet, mild-mannered boy who is minimally verbal but communicates his wants and needs effectively. He does not engage in elopement or self-injurious behavior, making this a manageable and rewarding role for someone with the right temperament. He loves spending time on the patio, rocking, humming, and watching nature, and the family is looking for someone who will sit with him in those moments, encourage his growth, and meet him with patience and genuine enthusiasm. A background in ABA therapy or special needs care is a meaningful bonus, but what matters most is intuition, common sense, and heart.
The schedule centers primarily around the afternoon and evening hours. The nanny will provide approximately one hour of morning support to help with wake-up and school preparation, with the core of the role beginning at school pick-up at 2:00 PM. Afternoons include therapy runs on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, afternoon snacks, pool time, play-based activities, bath, dinner, and a relaxed patio wind-down before a 9:45 PM bedtime. Flexibility is essential, as the schedule will shift seasonally with summer camps and school calendars, and the family appreciates a nanny who can adapt without missing a beat. Availability for occasional evenings, weekends, and date night coverage is expected.
The family has a housekeeper and cleaning service, so this is not a heavy housekeeping role. Light household support, errand running, children's laundry, and help keeping shared spaces organized are part of the day-to-day. The family's son follows a gluten-free and dairy-free diet, and while Mom typically prepares his meals, a nanny who is comfortable supervising and occasionally cooking within those dietary guidelines is a wonderful bonus.
The family has two small dogs, so comfort with pets is a must. The nanny will use the family's vehicle for transportation and must hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record. A valid passport is preferred, as the family spends extended time in California and occasionally travels to other states and Mexico. The ability to travel with the family is an important part of this role. All candidates must be comfortable signing an NDA and be current on routine vaccinations, including TDAP, flu, and COVID.
A background and experience working with children on the spectrum are both noted preferences for this family, though the right personality and approach will always take priority. Private bedroom and bathroom accommodations are provided. The family is warm, collaborative, and communicative, and they are looking for someone who will truly become part of their team.
This position offers $30+ per hour gross via payroll, paid sick days, paid holidays, paid vacation, and relocation assistance for the right candidate. The target start date is ASAP.
Qualifications
  • BA/BS COLLEGE DEGREE | AA IN RELATED FIELD OF STUDY | OR A MINIMUM OF 5+ YEARS OF PROFESSIONAL NANNY EXPERIENCE
  • UP TO DATE FIRST-AID & CPR CERTIFICATION (WILLINGNESS TO RENEW AS NEEDED)
  • THE ABILITY TO MAKE A ONE-YEAR COMMITMENT UNLESS APPLYING FOR A TEMPORARY POSITION
  • A PASSION FOR WORKING WITH CHILDREN
  • 5+ YEARS OF CHILDCARE EXPERIENCE IN ANY FIELD

  • U.S. DRIVER'S LICENSE (THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO NYC RESIDENTS)
