SHINE House Manager (Live-In)

Position Title: SHINE House Manager (Live-In)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Salaried (Housing Provided)
Reports To: Executive Director, For the Love of the Arts, Inc. / SHINE Recovery Programs
Location: SHINE House – Lake County, Indiana

Position Summary

The SHINE House Manager is responsible for the daily operation, safety, and supervision of SHINE House, a recovery residence for women and their children. This live-in position provides leadership, structure, accountability, and compassionate support while ensuring residents maintain a safe, recovery-focused environment.

The House Manager serves as a positive role model by fostering a culture of dignity, respect, responsibility, and hope. This position works closely with peer recovery coaches, case managers, treatment providers, and community partners to help residents achieve long-term recovery, stable housing, employment, and family reunification.

Essential Responsibilities

House Operations

  • Live on-site and provide daily oversight of the residence.
  • Ensure the home remains clean, safe, organized, and welcoming.
  • Conduct daily house walkthroughs and safety inspections.
  • Maintain household supplies and submit purchasing requests.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance and report repairs promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with SHINE House policies and state recovery housing standards.

Resident Supervision

  • Welcome and orient all new residents.
  • Explain house rules, expectations, and resident handbook.
  • Monitor resident compliance with program requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate house structure and accountability.
  • Address conflicts using trauma-informed and restorative approaches.
  • Enforce curfews, visitor restrictions, and pass privileges.
  • Document rule violations and recommend appropriate interventions.

Recovery Support

  • Encourage participation in recovery meetings and peer support groups.
  • Ensure residents attend SHINE Recovery Café programming.
  • Support residents in achieving individualized recovery goals.
  • Coordinate with Peer Recovery Coaches regarding resident progress.
  • Promote healthy living, life skills, and positive community involvement.

Children & Family Support

  • Help maintain a safe environment for children.
  • Support parents in following household expectations.
  • Assist with transportation coordination for school and appointments when needed.
  • Encourage healthy family routines and parenting practices.

Medication & Safety

  • Ensure medications are securely stored according to policy.
  • Conduct random room inspections as required.
  • Administer or coordinate random drug screens and breathalyzer testing.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, relapses, behavioral crises, or medical incidents.
  • Follow all mandatory reporting requirements.

Documentation

Maintain accurate documentation including:

  • Daily house logs
  • Incident reports
  • Curfew logs
  • Pass requests
  • Drug testing records
  • Resident attendance
  • Maintenance reports
  • Visitor logs
  • Safety inspections

Meal & Household Coordination

  • Coordinate meal planning with residents.
  • Assist residents with developing cooking and household management skills.
  • Ensure weekly cleaning schedules are completed.
  • Promote teamwork and shared responsibility.

Transportation Coordination

Coordinate transportation for:

  • Treatment appointments
  • Medical appointments
  • Employment
  • SHINE Recovery Café programming
  • Required community meetings

Administrative Duties

  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Participate in resident staffing meetings.
  • Assist with admissions and discharges.
  • Assist with state certification compliance.
  • Maintain confidentiality (HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 as applicable).
  • Assist during audits and program reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (Associate's or Bachelor's preferred)
  • Minimum two years of experience in recovery services, behavioral health, social services, or residential programming
  • Experience working with women, families, or individuals recovering from substance use disorders
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass background screening
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to obtain required recovery housing certifications and training

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Peer Support Professional (CPSP) or willingness to become certified
  • Experience with trauma-informed care
  • Experience working with justice-involved populations
  • Knowledge of motivational interviewing
  • Knowledge of recovery housing standards
  • Experience supervising staff or residential programs

Work Schedule

This is a live-in residential management position. The House Manager resides on-site and serves as the primary after-hours point of contact.

Typical schedule includes:

  • Five scheduled workdays per week
  • Evening and weekend availability as needed
  • On-call responsibilities for emergencies
  • Scheduled time off coordinated with relief staff
